I have a friend who's coming out today to his parents...I don't know if he knows it's the offical day, or anything, though. I'm going to tell him.

Yay for him! It takes a lot of courage.

He already told them he was gay a while ago. Now he's telling them that he's actually transgender, and going to pursue living as a woman. I get to help with things like eyeliner, picking the right bra, picking heels you can walk in, etc.
EDIT: I guess I should say she's coming out now- I have to break the habit of calling her "he".

I never really thought of that, girls do so many things that we don't even think about anymore that someone new to the lifestyle wouldn't have the first idea about. I wish him (or her if that's what he is going to want to be called) well, and hope his family is supportive.

What is the definition of "him" and "her" and of "male" and "female. Did it get changed from an anatomical definition to "whatever".

It's the gender versus sex issue.

I never heard this issue before.

I'm not a fan of that. If you have dangling bits, you're a 'he', irregardless of what you feel you are. Pronouns are defined by our sex, not our gender. They're not women stuck in men's bodies, they're people stuck in human bodies.

Just to clarify, if he actually undergoes the gender transformation, I'd be pretty comfortable calling him a 'her'. But not before, since he's still anatomically male.
And to be clearer - females who undergo a male transformation are not considered 'men' for the purposes of having children. The concept of the 'first man giving birth' a couple of years ago was a load of garbage.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

I really don't want to turn the bin into a debate. And that's where this will head. Suffice it to say that I'm going to honor my friend's wishes in regards to how she'd like to be addressed. And since she neither asks nor requires anyone elses approval or agreement with how she is going to live her life and define herself, I certainly feel no need to defend it on her behalf.

I choose to respect people's wishes to be called with whatever pronoun they think fits them.

Didn't want it to, just saying my piece. I've got to head off anyway.
I am curious to speak to a pre-op transgender person at some point and get into their head about what it is they're actually thinking. There are aspects of my mindset that might be construed to be more feminine, but I don't understand how they get from that social construct (feminine behaviour) to a physical one (am female).
There are other questions I've got in mind too, if anyone wanted to set up a thread about it, but as I said, need to run, so I'll drop it here.

I'd like to be called with the pronoun "that awesome green Squishy mod" instead of 'him/her'.
Ok, now really running.
