And now, I gotta say, I'm tempted to actually make an agent once I get the full game. LOVE their story, and play style.
Lore-wise they're like a mix of James Bond+Sam Fisher (Splinter cell) and Grand Moff Tarkin.
and Jo Wyatt is the touch of familiarity I needed to feel right at home with the class. Nothing like having female Hawke calming saying that you are a terrorist scum and must face punishment for defying the empire
Plus playing operative feels A LOT like playing a Ghost from starcraft. You got Optical Cloak to sneak around, can snipe enemies at distance, backstab enemies, and call in orbital strikes. (They're not nuclear, but close enough)
And its a very complete class combo. Kaliyo serves as a great tank, the kolto injection is an effective heal, with a short cast time, and relatively low resource cost. Energy regens fast enough, specially with that stim skill that increases its regen speed. And even if specced as healer, still do decent enough damage to solo anything relatively easy.
I soloed all the heroic quests in Hutta, and 3 heroic quests in Dromund Kaas.
All in all, really nice class. Plus those trenchcoats............. THOSE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME TRENCHCOATS!

@Rank- I can do it every month, and I trust you to come up with a fair figure- I'm not too worried about it. I'll just give you the info over vent, or by e-mail or something.
Maybe I can write it off as a charitable donation- "Video Games Without Borders" or something like that. JK :P
And I play a Sniper on Imperial- it really is a great story- wait until you get to act 2!

then its a deal =)
/shakes-hand.
It doesn't have to be "every" month, as I don't plan to retire from wow to play SWTOR. Instead, I'll alternate between both.
2 months of wow/2 months of SWTOR/2 months of WOW/2 months of SWTOR/2 months of wow....... ect ect ect.
I still love wow, but sadly, when a new patch is released, I often do everything there is to do in said patch (Minus heroic raid achievements) in a month. And then I have nothing else to do for the next 4 months while they release another patch. So....... I'll play wow for 2 months, and while i'm away at SWTOR, blizz releases the next patch.
works like a charm. I wonder if bioware will release their patches faster or slower than blizz? humm...........
So far my main complaint about the game is that it takes forever to log on and log off =/
wow, I double click the icon, and within 30 seconds I'm already inside, the game executes fast, and logs you in fast, likewise I press alt+f4 and I'm logged out and the game is closed instantaneously.
on SWTOR......... takes about 4 minutes to log me in, and about 6 to log me out. (kinda like Lineage II, which is also VERY slow to load and log you in)
Edit:
Maybe I can write it off as a charitable donation- "Video Games Without Borders" or something like that. JK :P
why kidding? its an awesome name :P you really should had studied PR xD you get a knack for coming up with catching names and titles for stuff. I bet you could find a way to say "TAX" without angering people.
and yes hat, <3 you too buddy.

Ouch- my game loads really fast. I'm playing on Skithus' new dilithium-flux-capacitor-powered-reaper-tech gaming laptop, though, so that might be why.
@ Rank- I AM in marketing, and I do write a lot of our PR material :)
And I studied International Political Economy and Diplomacy, so I feel that this kind of helps in my field. Marketing=Diplomacy, except you don't have to lie about the fact that you want people's money.
And per your challenge: It's not a tax- I just want to make this project that everyone in the community can be proud of saying they contributed to. I want it to be a monument to our dedication to our community, and to cooperation. For less than a cup of coffee each day- especially you fancy Starbucks people (you know who you are) for the next month, we can create something that our kids can look at and be really proud of- something they'll show their kids and say "My mom and dad helped build that." Surely, that's worth such a small increase in the budget?

I'm on an Operative at the moment actually. I made it a couple of days ago and I'm already on level 24 so I'm clearly really enjoying it. My only worry is that this isn't a character I want to heal with and I'm not overly fond of the shared tree for Agents so I only have one option really. However, it's a very fun option (once you get Lacerate especially!) so I'll worry about it later.
I now have 2 level 50 inquisitors, 2 mid-20s Agents, 2 level 18 Warriors (and a BH at 11). I wonder why I apparently keep levelling both advanced classes from each class >.<

@Xlanadanx- not unless you want to buy fudge. But really, it's butter, sugar, chocolate and cream- it kind of sells itself. And with like 30 flavors, it's not too hard to find one people like, even if they're not big chocolate people. Makes my job easy.
See what I did there?

=O do you take paper or plastic? I wanna contribute to that project so I can say in the future, "I helped build that"

wow, you've been busy :P
and its not that surprising that you level 2 of the same class, I'm tempted to do the same so I can see the difference between playing a full lightside campaign and a full dark side one.
So far my only 3 toons on SWTOR (Inquisitor, Trooper, and Agent) have been respectively Dark/Light/Light. It feels interesting to be a light-side agent. I do have my own set of morality though, so there were a few dark-side options I did took.
Such as that dude at the start wanting me to bribe him so he'd not blow my cover, yeah, I shot him. Or that wounded terrorist on the dark temple: yep, shot him. Or the bratty daughter of the mad scientist: yep, shot her too.
I've done the same on my inquisitor. I don't just take any option that gives dark side points. Because there's a difference between being evil, and being stupid evil. And several of the dark-side options border on "stupid evil" Such as turning on your allies, or ruining an operation just for the lulz. As a result of that, both my evil inquisitor has some light points, and my patriotic agent has some dark points.
Only "pure" class I've had so far is soldier. At lvl 12 I've yet had to encounter a situation were I had to take a dark option.

why T_T
its so annoying to have to loot each mob one by one. I was so impressed at how in SWTOR I killed 5 mobs at the same time, and with a single click, looted them all in one swipe.

@ Rank- I only have like 50 darkside points on my Agent total- ironically, that's less than on my Trooper or Smuggler. I think most of the DS imperial options are just so much worse that it's easier to steer clear of the DS options and still make decisions that make sense. I feel that a lot of the DS Republic options are more morally grey (Do you let the genocidal maniac walk free or kill him, since there's no time to capture. Do you force the soldiers not to go AWOL, even though the planet is close to a death trap, etc.), vs. Imperial ones (Shoot all the puppies, burn down an orphanage to roast marshmallows).
And I totally slept with that guy at Nem'ro's to keep my cover. The IA is the !@#$% of the universe (or mine was, until she hooked up with her LI).

I agree AoE looting is excellent ^_^
The LS/DS system is interesting but I'm not sure what it's for right now. The trouble is that there's things in game that rewards a high figure in one direction or the other and that's just encouraging people to make decisions based on something other than what they want their character to choose. They're bringing in some neutral rewards too but that's even worse because it means that while you may have a little more freedom, you'll sometimes say, "Wow I've got tons of DS points right now I need to take some LS choices to get it back to neutral!"
So take away the rewards right? Make it so that people can just choose what the decisions their character would make... but now there's no point in the system at all.
All that said, I took great pride in getting my Sorc to 50 with 10k DS points and getting the DS mount ^_^

@Asakawa- If you have the diplomacy tradeskill, you can use that to shift your LS/DS without affecting your main story. Also, if you want to farm the LS/DS points, pick a low level instance that has a couple of decisions that you know you'd make a certain way, and farm them.

@ElhonnaDS, I'm aware of that but actually Diplomacy (which I have on my full DS Sorc) is a problem because for a while I was using a DS V trinket and if I wanted to farm Diplomacy for medical supplies I had to pick some LS missions. Every time I did the trinket became unusable until I managed to get enough DS points to even it out again.
Farming Black Talon (Esseles if you're a wimpy Republic) is fine but boring and shouldn't be necessary. LS/DS is a storyline thing. They've built a game on story but here's something that pushes people to make decisions based on something else. It's just an opposing force to everything else they've got going on and feels out of place.
I like the system. I like the story. Why do I feel that they're not properly complimenting each other?
@Patty, I'm a real man. No universities for me, I went to drama school (true story).(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

Well, I sent them an email well over a week ago to book me for a visiting day next week, after hearing nothing I get sent straight to an answering machine when I call, and my message will probably be ignored again. It's a pain in the arse because I have to book flights, hotels and whatever else once I'm confirmed for it, and it's in six days. :/

And I totally slept with that guy at Nem'ro's to keep my cover. The IA is the !@#$% of the universe (or mine was, until she hooked up with her LI).
That's a sloppy job, >.> my agent is a full professional, and professionals don't leave loose ends. What's to stop that guy from blabbering his big mouth after getting some bootie? am I to trust his word when minutes ago he was perfectly willing to resort to extortion? All it takes is him saying the wrong thing at the wrong person and boom, there goes my cover, and there goes the empire getting a strong ally on Hutta. I think of the bigger picture, so, offing a low-time thug like him for the greater good isn't such a big conflict of morality for me.
I think most of the DS imperial options are just so much worse that it's easier to steer clear of the DS options and still make decisions that make sense
I dunno, some of them are morally gray. For example, "The man with the voice of Steel" has that guy who wants to clear the swamp of pollution, Light-side option is to do so, but in the process unleash a chemical that while it cleanses the water, it causes mutation on the swamp fauna, making them go agressive and attack the settlers.
So, save the environment, or save the civilians? That's morally gray.
@asakawa: Well, I was gonna give you an answer but elhonna already did it for me. WIth the Diplomacy tradeskill you can max out your darkside/lightside meter, so just choose based on your own morality rather than a desire to max out any one side. Alternatively, farm low lvl instances that feature a lot of choises. I know black talon has at least 3 bits where you can gain 100 light/dark points.
One thing that annoys me about the dialog system is that its not as neatly organized as Mass Effect or Dragon Age 2.
On Mass Effect, all the paragon (nice) options were above, all the neutral (Boring, straight to the point) options were in the middle, and all the renegade (either jerk, or awesome sarcastic) are at the bottom. Dragon Age 2 did a better job, with the diplomatic options (Nice) above, Sarcastic options in the middle, and aggressive (jerk and sociopath) options at the bottom.
One would expect the system to be the same on SWTOR, but its not. Sometimes the top option is indeed nice, where the middle one is to inquire more info, and the bottom one is a mean one, and some times its reversed, and some times is completely mixed up, and you get the idea :S Dialog Options should be better organized.
At least you can reset every conversation by hitting ESC and re-do all of it to try a different aproach.
Farming Black Talon (Esseles if you're a wimpy Republic) is fine but boring and shouldn't be necessary. LS/DS is a storyline thing. true, true. Maybe at some point in the future they can add Daily quests that give light-side/dark-side? (but then that would invalidate the diplomacy trade-skill............)
