Any mathsy people fancy helping me out?
Basically, I'm wanting to write an equation where 2 values go in and get diddled with, I didn't know how to so I've just got it as
this
. Does that make sense? (Also re: the double fraction, dunno if that's allowed :P).
It's not quite kosher. I'm assuming that the (2)^(x-1) / (2*2^(x-1)-1) is the numerator in the whole thing.
The bit below the lines can be multiplied together and brought into the big fraction's denominator and overall, it could be simplified by dividing top and bottom by 2 (i.e. top becomes 2^(x-2)).
What's this for?

Ugh. I used to be good at algebra, but it makes my eyes bleed.

My question still stands... Can I egg their house?

Oh... Well if it's silence you're after then maybe egging their house isn't the best idea. I'd imagine they'd get pretty pissed off and noisy.

That reminds me of being 19, back when I drank. We used to cruise down Gorokan Drive with the windows all the way down and Lady Gaga blaring, screaming the lyrics.
Now that I'm sober, I have taste.

Are you sure your formula is right? Suppose x = 1:
2^(x-1) = 1
2 * 2^(x-1) - 1 = 1
Numerator = 1/1 = 1
Denominator: 2 * 1 = 2
Result: 1 / 2 * 100 = 50
I don't think it's supposed to be 2y. Can you confirm?(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

Actually, here's your formula:
Importance% = (2^(x-y))/(2^x - 1)*100
I'm not sure how you came to your previous formula, but it's definitely not working when I test it.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

Ah, okay then, in that case, the logic works, but you can simplify it right down (example above) that removes the separate 2^(x-1) and 2^(y-1) bits.
Edited example: should be 2^(x-y).
In Excel, if A2 = x and B2 = y,
Your formula: =(2^(A2-1)/(2*2^(A2-1)-1))/2^(B2-1)*100
Simplified formula: =2^(A2-B2)/(2^A2-1)*100(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

That
is a damned elegant picture now.
Not quite right - the '-1' in the denominator should be outside the superscript.
