You know how we talked about Secret World not getting much attention from media? Total Biscuit just made a
video of it
. It's kinda okay. I really liked the Illuminati introduction video and TB totally didn't, lol.
I played it... but I didn't like how a stack of helecopters would ALL take damage from a single tank. Like they were taking turns or something. It wasn't realistic application of strategic forces. I also didn't like how when I first opened the game, it was a political skit aimed at making fun of George Bush. I don't want to be preached to when I pay for a game. I don't think that crap is funny. I looked at what else was on the game, and Sid Meyers' Civilization 5 had a tribute to Sid Meyers in which everyone talks about how humble Sid Meyers is, which I find overwhelmingly ironic. The game itself had potential, but didn't seem to work toward end game, and the extras were pushy and arrogant. It's actually because of this game that I avoid buying Firaxis games.
I did not even get to tanks/helicopters yet. I am running around with cannons and janisaries and riflemen currently. But I am not bothered by lack of visual realism in strategic games. And I honestly have no idea what you are talking about with the Bush thing. Maybe it's because I didn't do campaign.

Visual realism? I don't care about that either. I'm interested in, like I said, "realistic application of strategic forces". You'll know what I mean when you send in 70 tanks, 30 totally uber overpowered
expensive
Apache attack helecopters, and a musket soldier takes down 3 of them because they were low on health. I guess my other 27 helicopters and 70 tanks were just sitting there while he was packing powder into his musket.

/shrug Nothing is perfect. I guess I know what you mean. It's because in Civ5, when a unit attacks a unit, they both kind of attack each other
at once
, and that system has
a lot of
possible down sides. For instance the one you name. It is not possible to just obliterate a unit, if, at the start of the round, that unit has the power to take down some of your units. To be honest though, I have never been playing strategy games on a high difficulty or anything, so for me, losing like three helicopters to a petty riflemen would not be such a huge thing. Like... yeah, it's kind of tongue in cheek and it should not be there and stuff, but it is something I can look past. I kind of experienced what you are talking about with my scouts, very early in the game, when I managed to beat the crap out of a group of barbarians with a pretty low amount of scouts, and at first I was like "wait, this does not make a whole lot of sense from this and this point of view" but then I was like "oh... this is how it works" and I was fine with it.
The main draw in Civ 5 for me is... well, the extremely low price firstly, like, I do not mind that this game has flaws when I am paying next to nothing for it, but most of all it is the novelty of playing a civilization that is not prominent now, and making it into a world conquering, modern nation. Like high tech vikings. Or the fact that I can just have Hagia Sophia,
the Big Ben, the great pyramids and Stonehenge
, all in
Istanbul
, is freaking hilarious. Oh and it is surrounded by the
great wall of China
. Seriously, dat game. I am fairly knowledgeable in warfare history and in the history of arts (such a useless education when it comes to job opportunities), and I just love how this game twists it all into one amusing mess.
