I got yelled at because I don't think Lord of the Rings is a great. It is just that now it is pure middle of the rode with nothing truly great. It is all very nice but in places seams shallow.
You'll always find that Edan; but I'm right there with you. I've read LotR once in my life, and never again. I'll read the Hobbit again, but not going anywhere near the new Jackson monoliths....*grumble*making three movies out a three hundred or so page book*grumble*
Well, I think The Lord of the Rings is a great trilogy, but it has sort of become a template for epic high fantasy stories. Because of that, you see a saturation of tropes from Lord of the Rings in RPGs, Fantasy Novels, Films, Short Stories, Video Games, etc. So, for me, it gets to the point of tedium to read the source material, because it has all of those tropes in one trilogy.
And Adams, how can you not be excited about the splitting of The Hobbit into three movies? That gives them nearly nine hours to tell the entire story visually, which I think gives them plenty of time to go into nearly every detail. Yes, they are absolutely doing it for money as well, but with the amount of detail that Jackson was able to put into the Lord of the Rings movies, you know that he'll try to do the same with this one. At least, I hope he would. 100 pages per movie sounds about right for screenplay length, too.

I've never liked LotR but I do love the Hobbit.

Because I hate a majority of the Peter Jackson movies? And he's just going to do to the Hobbit what he did to King Kong, so I'm not looking forward to it at all; while he will put in the detail...the fact is, it's not worth making a new trilogy for this; maybe a duology, but even that's stretching it. More then likely each part of this will be two and half to three hours long, and will have lots of shout outs/references/straight out cameos from LotR even though it shouldn't be happening. So yeah, I have no hope at all for the Hobbit movies.

I hate today. I hate cheating bastards. I can't stand those $%^&*!@s that can just throw away 25 years of marriage for a hoochie mama. I'm losing a good friend and coworker this week because of it.

Oh well. It's just a matter of preference, I guess. I love the majority of Jackson's movies and The Hobbit is by far my favorite book in the Middle Earth mythos, so I'm very excited at the prospect. I think that it could be split into three parts well enough, as well. It could go from Hobbiton to Beorn's House, then from Beorn's to the dungeons in Mirkwood, and then from the dungeons to Lake Town and the Battle of the Five armies with about 20-30 minutes or so for the denouement.
Just as long as he doesn't try to stretch the Battle of Five Armies into an entire movie in itself, which he might be pressured to do by the production company, as pretty much the entirety of Return of the King was the Battle for Minas Tirith.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
