Hey everyone! Just joined the site. Absolutely LOVE WoWHead, it's such a huge help!
Anyhow, onto my question. I'm a level 54 Tauren Warrior. I'm COMPLETELY broke right now, only having about 100g. Obviously, I'm getting my Epic Ground Mount in a few levels, and I don't have enough money for it. My question for you is this: what would be the best combination of professions/grinding spots to earn money for my mount? I currently have Herbalism, which is netting me some decent gold, but not enough right now to make a huge difference, but then again, I don't level it much. Any help and suggestions that you may have will be of much help!
Jewelry Crafting
I'm making a
boatload
selling
one
of these...
Dragon's Eye
I only need to do one daily quest for the gem. It presently costs me up to $20g to buy the green gems to craft the trinket for the quest reward. Eventually prices will drop significantly.
and
one
of these...
Savage Titanium Ring
I farm the Eternal Fire at Wintergrasp 3x week, and buy the Titanium on the AH. I think I'm the only one on my server with the design pattern at the moment, or the only one crafting it for some reason.
I will have earned enough for Epic Flying in less than 2 weeks.

From 55-60 you can make great money. Since most people go outlands at 58, the mats like rugged leather greater eternal esscence and thorium sell for a ton on my server. I actually make more money farming in EPL/winterspring etc then Outland or northeend
Herbing should make you money just go back and level it if you don't have a second proff get skinning and a cheap +5 enchant to gloves.
Thee are some great leveling guides in this sight so check em out shouldn't take to long to level

I agree completely. At 58.....i started working on my Winterspring trainers rep (to get the epic mount) and farmed 4-5 stacks of rugged leather an hour. Plus the drops were great. I sold them CHEAPLY on my server at 5 gold a stack....could have sold them for more...and they usually sold within minutes of posting them.
When I hit 60...had my epic land mount that only required 75 riding skill...but skilled up ANYWAY since I had the cash.
At 68 I did the same thing in outland with with heavy knothide leather. Farmed Nagrand...woriked on Kureni rep and others while doing it. Had enough for my epic flyer when i hit 70. Took about 2 and a 1/2 weeks of farming and saving (casual playing, couple hors maybe 5-6 times a week). At 70 I then hit the Isle of Quel dailies.

well if you're still lower lvl and you dont wanna put a lot of money into lvling a crafting prof i would suggest taking skinning and using the lvling guides on this site to get your herbalism and skinning as high as you can. i was miner/skinner until lvl 80 and i made a lot of money that way. once you get to lvl 58 you should go to outland and start questing since the quest rewards are pretty nice. maybe get an addon like auctioneer that tells you the vendor prices of things so you can pick the rewards from quests that sell for the most money (if you dont want them of course). gl

Most people failed to realize is your in your 50's, you can't get those JC patterns and Lich King doesn't apply yet.
Go to Western/Eastern Plaguelands and stay there. Collect all cloth to sell, all greens are worth selling or Disenchanting and selling.
Scan the auction house for mats to buy.
ie) Thick leather sells for 3g/stack - makes 4 nightscape headbands
Disenchant headbands and get 10 vision dust and 2 lesser nether essence
Value of 12g, Depending on your server.
If you can get something like leatherworking built up, Heavy Borean Armor Kits, takes 24 Borean Leather, Auction cost to buy leathers.. about 16g... but the kits is selling for 45-60g each. I don't have time to skin 200 skins a day but I still sell about 5 of these and about 5 of the regular borean armor kits daily.
Be creative, if you need to disenchant something, you can have another character leveled to 20 that can disenchant to a level 225 which is almost everything that is level 60 from the old world, not outlands.
Blacksmithing - it's expensive, and a dead profession unless you at the high levels
Enchanting - make another character for that, there is no money in it as an enchanter for hire
Jewelcrafting - expensive to start... really, really expensive. Your to low to make money from it.
Skinning - Best and most profitable for a level 50, rugged leather sell for insane prices and are easy to get
Mining - Great because you'll be rich from the other guy that started Blacksmithing/JewelCrafting
Herbalism/Alchemy - My wife does this and I bleed alot of gold to her. With inscriptions though, there can be some money back into this.
Leatherworking - hard to make money if your below skill 400, then it's a gold mine
Deviate scale belts are good to make and sell, mats drop in Wailing Caverns.
Nightscape Headbands are great to make and mail to your alt to Disenchant.
Once again, be creative.

Then she's doing something wrong. Unlike a lot of crafting professions Alchemy is self sustaining if you have Herbalism. I've leveled up 3 alchemists (one is 435 atm) and it's cost me very little money to level up overall.
The way to make gold is to gather and sell. Mining and herbalism are great gathering professions. I personaly haven't made a lot of money from skinning but it's easier to pair up skinning with mining or herbalism then it is to do both mining and herbalism because you can't see both ore and herbs on the minimap (although some bug allowed my warlock to see both and I made a fortune until it was "fixed" when she hit level 61 so I switched her over to Alchemy).
Jewelcrafting might make money down the road but initially you will be broke leveling it up and buying all the recipes you need. Plus, as was pointed out, it doesn't become viable until BC. Right now in Northrend I've gotten VERY few pieces that allow me to put gems in and my 80 Paladin has all blues. There is some sockets in the epic gear . The JCers can't be very happy.
If you take mining you can sell to both Blacksmithers and JCers and there's a large market there. If you do Herbalisms the new Inscription craft will fill your pockets. I made 2000g when it first came out just selling herbs on the AH. Alchemists who don't herb or don't want to farm will buy herbs too. Skinning makes the leatherworkers happy.
Gather and sell...and don't spend. That's the way to make gold. I've never had a problem making gold. Mining, Herbalism and to some extent Skinning paid for three epic flyers without a problem.
