So I just hit 80 and I went around and grabbed the 4 faction tabards to wear in instance runs. But my question is, which rep to grind first? What has the best rewards for a mage? I would almost assume Kirin Tor since its the Dalaran "mage" society. But am I missing something?

All classes should champion Kirin Tor with their tabards. KT quests only get you to just under honored, and the only dailies are cooking and jewelcrafting. All of the other factions have quests that get you past or near revered, on top of a large amount of daily rep (1500 for Ebon Blade, 750 Wyrmrest, 900ish for AC)

The point here is, if you need something from KT exalted AND something from one of the other reps exalted, and you do the same amount of championing rep per day, you will get both of them faster by KT championing while doing dailies (unless you're happy with waiting longer for the second piece).

Yeah
Hat of Wintry Doom
is very good to increase your DPS. It gives nice chunk of hit and the best,metagem. Get
Chaotic Skyflare Diamond
for your metagem slot and spellpower gem for the red socket. The metagem increase your dps by 150-200.
I read a lot that this is what should be done but for some reason when I equip
Hat of Wintry Doom
and socket the
Chaotic Skyflare Diamond
it tells me that the gem is inactive just wondering what I'm doing wrong.

"Requires at least 2 blue gems" means you need to have at least two blue/purple/green/prismatic gems in your gear for it to work.
I should have figured as much. Though I'm still a bit puzzled as to why people would recommend a gem that doesn't go with that particular piece of gear.
