I've been hearing things about blizzard going to scail some old gear to make them better to fit with MoP. Anyone else heard about this?

You're probably confused about the current gear scaling for Challenge Modes in the Beta. For testing, all gear is scaled upwards to an itemlevel of 463 - but when Mists goes live, it will actually work the other way around, any piece of gear
above
463 will be scaled
down
to that itemlevel.
