People say the same thing about a lot of bands, and sometimes they say the opposite.
I'm one of the few people I know that likes
all
of Linkin Park's studio albums.

With the exception that their new music isn't just different, but awful. =/ Even if another band had released either of those albums, they'd still be terrible albums. I'd also like to note that I'm rather apathetic of Metallica as a whole, they're certainly not in my top 100 favorite bands and probably not in my top 1000 most listened to.
No, it's not awful.
You
just don't like it.

Yeah, I can barely listen to any of their stuff anymore, but I thoroughly enjoyed Hybrid Theory and Meteora when I was younger, as well as a few tracks off of Reanimation. I wish they'd have died in a plane crash or something before Minutes to Midnight, though.

Which is why they are the perfect example of opinion is just that. :P

No, it's awful. There is not a single positive thing to be said about St Anger and Death Magnetic isn't far behind. The fact that I don't like it just happens to be easier to impress upon others.

Your opinion =/= consensus
Think whatever you want, but the consensus is that both albums are above average, with death magnetic being well into the "good" category.

Well, I certainly wasn't going to list regular listener reviews, but if we're taking that route...

The ratings for those two albums, at least, come from 20-ish users, just like the links you provided.
St Anger - 49%
Death Magnetic - 70%
I would trust the reviews from a site dedicated to metal over Metacritic, personally. Compared to 'Ride the Lightning' which received a 93%. As I said, I'm fairly apathetic to Metallica anyway, so even this seems generous. I certainly don't see a 70% rating to be "good", much less anything lower than that.

So wait, you argument for them being awful is to link reviews that put one at exactly average and the other at well above average?
Are you done pretending like your opinion equals fact?
What you trust is irrelevant. Both my numbers and your number prove that you're projecting your own tastes into any objective statement you make.

As with pretty much any scale, I wouldn't want 50% to be the average. This is why the American education system sucks so much.
I would say, at best, that Death Magnetic could be considered average for music considering when it was released and the target audience. Mediocre rehash and nothing more. AT BEST. This does not make for good music.

Because you prefer a more deceptive ranking system?
And what in God's name does the American education system have to do with anything?

In your opinion, sure.
Luckily for the huge number of people who do like the albums, you're not objective reality.

In our education system, when people can't cut it, they dumb everything down so the idiots can make it too. Popular music (ie, music that people apparently enjoy) isn't necessarily good. If you look at the charts, most of the artists will have a hit song or two in the top 100 over the course of a decade, but there are still only 50 artists on the charts. People just aren't interested in good MUSIC, they are interested in INDIVIDUAL SONGS that relate to them at that moment or some ^&*!.
Good music can't be judged solely by the number of people who like it.

What do hit charts have to do with critical reviews?
Are you rambling or actually making a point? Because I see nothing relevant.

This implies that the huge number of people who like bad music indicate that it isn't actually bad.
As I recall, Jersey Shore seems to be quite popular as well...

Uh, no, it implies that your subjective standards are not held by everyone, and it a very good thing. In fact it doesn't imply that. It says that. Quite clearly.
Making stupid logical jumps like that is not a good idea with me.

The platypus is a mammal. The platypus lays eggs. Therefore, all mammals lay eggs.

The definition of 'popular' does not include the words 'quality' or 'good'.

And the definition of "opinion" doesn't include the words "if it differs, it's wrong."

Therefore the platypus IS AN ABOMINATION OF NATURE!
