General Rant about Guides
Return to board index
one flaw in your reasoning. to actually learn how to heal, you have to heal a group and not dps in a heal spec (which is what lvling is unless you discovered the secret art of healing mobs to death) <snip>
My holy priest (currently lev-64) has been 100% holy talents since lev-10. While questing it is true that I do some killing. But as a holy priest I have learned a lot about things other than killing.
One of the biggest things I've learned is how not to
to kill. This involves learning radius of agro (body pulls) as well as how to create a group and deal with group dynamics (hey, are you going on this quest - can I come along as the healer?). Another important thing I've learned is how to get out of trouble when I'm being swarmed which is using very similar tactics to when you pull agro in an instance.
In the process of leveling I've also learned that it is far better for me to learn how to motivate others into joining a group and tackling an instance. While there are very few lower level instances being run, I've learned how to form instance teams well enough to where my holy priest has earned at least 50% of his levels strictly through instances. Then again perhaps it is because I've learned enough about healing groups that those people now want to instance with me and ask me to run with them? Given that sometimes they'll even volunteer to help me on quests, there may be some merit to the idea.
