Give 55 gold to all those who bought the 40 mount...

If you want to act by that logic of "Older people got screwed when they made things easier to achieve"
Ask that to the Pre-BC players that are now 70 and still only Honored with their capital cities compared to the newer characters level 55 who are Exalted.
Refunding / Handing out free stuff from Blizzard because of patch changes is the weirdest and most random demands i've ever seen.

The Dev's lowered the level for mounts for the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King Expansion to make leveling though Azaroth easier so they could see the new content at a faster pace.
As you level your character, the gold you accumulate adds up exponentially. At level 30, with a little hard work, it is possible for you to make about 35 gold.
Now, if they did not lower the cost, you would need 85 gold at level 30. It's just not every realistic, albeit still possible, for you to accumulate that much gold at so low of a level.
The difference in the prices (55 gold) are hardly felt when you hit level 70 with the multitude of daily quests. One can easly make around 120 gold a day alone though daily quests. 55 gold can be made with only 5 quests, each quest only taking about 10 minutes to complete. All in all you spent about 50 minutes (55 gold worth) of extra time to get the mount before the patch.
Here is a list of daily quests that you may complete to earn that money back as well.
http://www.wowhead.com/?quests&filter=si=1;da=ja;cr=3:11:22;crs=1:5:5;crv=0:1:1#0-7-5+1+2
The 55 gold (or 50 minutes) that you spent was so that you may have the right to use a mount earlier than the people that waited for the patch. The time between when the mount change was announced and when the patch was released was about a month and a half, possibly closer to 2 months. (by about a week) If a character hit level 30 and waited that time period, you saved yourself 55 gold. But if you spent that 55 gold (or 50 minutes) then you where free to continue leveling. In that time span, if you only played about 2 hours a day, for the next 2 months, you would have been around level 60 and able to buy your next mount taining anyway by the time the patch came out.
A person is roughly able to complete a 1 quest every 10 minutes
The average person plays for about 2 hours a day
Each quests awards roughly 10 gold.
So at 2 hours a day how much gold can we make in a 2 month span?
2 Hours * 60 Minutes = 120 Minutes Played a Day
120 Minutes Played / 10 Minutes per quest = 12 Quests per Day
12 Quests per Day * 10 Gold per Quest = 120 Gold per Day
120 Gold * 60 Days (or 2 Months) = 7,200 Gold per 2 Months
Now, do you think it is worth spending 55 gold more (or 50 minutes) to continue to level or have to wait. Also, in the 2 months that you would have waited to save 55 gold. You could have made 7,200 gold.

If they're going to make level 30 mounts cost so little compared to the old 40 mounts, then to be fair to those who "slaved away" as newbs a few years ago (I being one of them :P), we should get our (55?) gold back!
We even had to run around for 10 levels more, which wasn't that' fun. Especially through STV... uhg.
Seriously, this isn't such a big deal, right? It's the fair thing to do. My Mage is, last I left him, a poor little Mage, because of how much his old 40 mount cost him. I worked for that mount, and it was nice when I finally got it! But to make them so cheap now, I feel a bit cheated. :/
Just like they let people re-spec when they change talents around (do they? I know they did that in another mmorpg I played), this would be no different, imo.
If someone with an active WoW account could maybe repeat this, if you agree with it, on the Official WoW General forum, that'd be great! I want this to happen, as do many others I'm sure. :D
so ok, you bought a laptop 2 months ago worth 1000 euro's for example
you walk by today, in the same store, and see the exact same laptop you bought is priced for 800 now
will you demand 200 euro's back? because that is what it looks like to me...
you're an idiot, sorry, but this is just plain stupid!!

Think about it this way: you'll be saving 55g on all your future alts. Say you have two alts and your main, and both alts gets a mount, then Blizzard has just saved you 55g.
And no it's not "changing" the rules in the middle, it's progress and evolution. Are you going to make a petition in reality which wants a refund for the computer parts that just became cheaper a year after you bought them?
Xendra, buddy, don't temp him/her. I work customer service for a number of software companies (third party customer service ftl) and believe me, there are plenty of idiots out there that do just that. The number of times we've had to tell customers who bought software a year before it went on sale that they can't have the sale price retro-actively applied to their purchase is simply ridiculous.
I really feel sorry for humanity, it's almost scary.

I don't know anything about this gear you bring up; I've not played WoW for over 2 1/2 years, and even then I was a newb when I left, pretty much.
Could someone please log onto the O-boards and suggest that inactive accounts be deleted after 18 months...

"Game Experience May Change During Online Play"
Seriously, why is it that every game has people like this? You did not lose a single thing from this action, you only stand to benefit from it if you choose to make an alt. What makes you think you are entitled to getting your 55 gold back at all? The fact that some of you people choose to agree with him is even more mind-boggling. Even more surprising is the fact he can type a coherent sentence.

I would but I don't have an account anymore. And my old account was banned anyways.
By the way, if this change @#$%es you off, brace yourself when the 5000g epic flyer training is cheapened.

Fair-minded. Just. Equitable. Plain ol' good business.
The only argument
against
refunding players that makes sense to me is the "It's Just a Game" argument: Because it's just a dumb-f***ing game there's no reason to apply elevated concepts to WoW. But, of course, that argument can be extended to just about every aspect of the game.

Economy is economy, be it virtual or otherwise. As it's been repeated many times, go to your car dealership and tell them you'd like $5k back because that's the price reduction that's occurred since you purchased it. Tell them you deserve the refund because it's "Fair-minded. Just. Equitable. Plain ol' good business."
And when your ears stop ringing from their combined laughter and disbelieving stuttering, come back and try the argument again.
No functioning economy works this way. And there is no reason why WoW should either. Just because the "It's just a game" argument is the only one that makes sense to you does not mean it's the only valid reason - it's just the only reason that you can't refute with your rhetoric and sloppy logic.

Outside of the auction house (where the mere existence of supply and demand could but shouldn't be defined as an "economy"), there is no economy so your analogy doesn't apply.
And if I bought a car at $15,000 and the price was lowered to $10,000 the following week, I am usually not contractually obligated to receive a refund because the contract was written by the seller and they are protecting their own interests.
But
is that just or equitable? Is it fair? Is it good business? Just because dishonest business exists in the world in no way invalidates what I said.
