So with the release of patch 3.3 frost mages are going to get a huge boost in pve dps from all that I've been seeing and reading. My question is this. From a raiding standpoint, with the release of Glyph of Eternal Water
, will there at all be a need or a purpose for any ranks in Enduring Winter
? If you think about it, there are so many different classes and specs that have that .25% mana regen over set amount of time, and I'm not sure if they stack. That being said, will something to the accord of this
be the new standard for frost raiding? Or will Blizzard change enduring winter to be more beneficial to frost mages in another way?

Is close to the build I tested on the PTRs last night (I didn't have Brain Freeze, because I didn't respec after they reverted the Frozen Core changes). Wearing my arcane raiding set, on the test dummies, with no outside buffs, I was pulling 7k DPS with two back to back Icy Veins after a cold snap, and then dropped to 5.6k average by the time I went OOM (with a whopping 800k total damage done), after using two charges of mana gem, no evocates.
Frostbite doesn't work in raids, and you only need one point in imp. blizzard to proc FoF. Also, CoC usage is so situational, it's unwise to spend 3 points in there, when you could use all 7 of these points to grab Ice Barrier, Cold Snap, Arctic Reach, and Icy Floes.
Now, one thing to keep in mind is that I was hitting these numbers without using Deep Freeze (because the dummies aren't immune to stuns, I can't test the benefit). I was checking it out, and by the time FoF procced, DF was almost always off CD ready to be used. This leads me to believe that Molten Armor glyph is a better choice than Ice Lance, since you'll only be using it as an alternative to DF.
Even if it doesn't beat arcane, this is an amazing improvement for a spec that used to be absolutely terrible. More in line with the question though, is that I think Enduring Winter is only needed for Replenishment as a raiding mage, but those 3 points have to come from somewhere. I'd just leave it to the ret paladins and shadow priests to provide these raid buffs.

is thinking that Glyph of Eternal Water
should be a talent rather than a glyph... and make the Enduring Winter
Talent be the glyph...
is also thinking that what i said is really off topic XD

What I was meaning to get at was that a mage's Frost tree has a lot of snaring, slowing, manipulation effects for PvP already. In return for the pet now lasting forever, being a steady DPS increase in PvE. They lose the Freeze
ability, which is dominantly used for PvP, as many raid mobs can not be frozen.
If a Mage still wishes to use the Elemental for PvP, they simply don't glyph for this, and retain the 8 second snare.
