They don't get your account information through in-game means, such as in-game mail or trading.
They get your account info through phishing and keyloggers.
People clicking on links in fake Blizzard e-mails and then entering their account information on the gold sellers website (which will look as if it's a real Blizzard website) or installing programs/visiting websites that the gold seller you are trying to buy gold from sends you, which are either fake websites or programs that install a keylogger on your computer.
The term hacking is actually wrong, as the gold sellers don't hack anything in order to get your information.
How do gold sellers hack accounts? How can they get your account information if they only mail you gold?
I'm not asking this because I want to buy gold, but if they can get account information without you giving it to them, I'll buy an authenticator.
Another common method is simply stupidity. People often will go buy gold from a website and that website requires you to create an account... then some people simply use their WoW login and password for that gold buying account and BAM, presuming they don't have an authenticator, they now have your information.
There are a few ways in which goldsellers obtain the account information.
- They set up 'phishing' websites that are linked to in fake emails from Blizzard, and the people who do not realise it's a trap enter their account details there
- People download keyloggers without realising it, and the keylogger takes note of what details they enter to their account
- People use the same account details on the goldsellers' website (or perhaps other websites, too) that they do for WoW
Don't download anything that looks dodgy, make sure the things that look safe are actually safe, and don't enter your WoW account details anywhere other than battle.net (that's not battlenet.com or any fake site like that!) and obviously the actual game.
