Crit procs Illumination, which returns mana, which lets you heal more to proc more Illuminations... I don't see how such a low crit can be seen as more effective.

If by that he means his tank dies only half the time, then that's not good enough. My guess is that your other healers are either carrying him through the raid or that he OOM's fast and is stuck in mana crisis.
We have tons of haste healing gear but it's really not nearly as good as pure crit gear. Haste will just shorten your lifespan as a healer.

As a general rule, you want a minimum of 30% crit before you start seeking out any haste alternatives. Check his spec. He may not have any stats in ret, reducing his crit rating by a brutal 8%. I've never, ever seen a holy pally with less than 20% crit chance.

Well, when i first went into raids, my guild was pulling my weight, but i was like 4-5th on the dps meter, so i did my own, i never heal or tank (hate them both) and they are fine with it, why judge someones' role by their class, if they can do multiple role?
Anyway, i have no experience with healing gear, so i would agree with the other guys here, they seem to know what they are on about. lol

Int is the way to go if you wanna stack something other than sp
as it gives you mana regen, crit and sp all in one it is THE stat you will want to look for
