All healers are on par with each other when it comes to what they're capable of healing.
In your case, if the tank was taking too much damage with a three-stack of lifebloom up and a regrowth, put up a rejuvenate. When all your hots simply aren't enough to keep your tank topped off use Swiftmend or Nourish. Pick up
Glyph of Swiftmend
if you don't already have it.
Also, keep in mind, contrary to popular PUG-belief, the tank dying isn't always the healers fault. Poor gear on the tank's part, lack of crowd control, and bad pulls all come into play.

This honestly sounds like a problem with a poorly geared tank than a subpar healer. I play feral DPS/tank the majority of the time, but when my friends are hurting for healing, I'll make the jump and respec. I would guess my gear is similar to yours as I have about 1500 healing, and I heal heroics fine in general as an occasional healer with no healing glyphs.

Did the Pally have gear enough to tank UK? I do not agree too much with Blizzard's crit scale. The MT in our guild was at 528 defense and we went into a heroics. Seeing as how there should ahve only been a 0.28% chance of him getting crit; we should ahve been fine. He took 3 of the first 4 strikes as crits though at the first boss. If the tank is crittable; I would stear clear of hero's with him for now. Is tarted out doing Hero's with my 70 BC gear and around 1300 spellpower. 1500 is fine for healing in Wrath hero's.

I always make it a point to armory my tanks before we even enter the instance. There should be some warning signs if it's gonna go bad right from the start.
Less than 23k hp,
Any of their items are green (save trinks),
If they have never done the instance (even on normal),
If they do not know what "def capped" means.
Gear not socketed/enchanted (to an extent)
If you see a few of these signs, just ask the tank to put on his tanking set. If he has it on, tell the group leader (if its not the tank) that the tank is undergeared and has to go. If the tank is the group leader, explain that you feel your time better used elsewhere and leave.
A good thing to start doing is adding tanks to your friends list that you enjoyed healing for.
You have a decent amount of spellpower, a 3stack LB + rejuv should keep the tank up for trash, and you can throw regrowth/swiftmends in for bosses.
With a good tank, you should be able to heal just about every heroic, maybe not HoL or Gundrak.

With 1500 heals, you should be doing fine; probably the tanks issue. Did your guildie shaman healer that filled in say if he had a problem?
Sounds like your rotation is fine. Was there any CC being used? Remember that you have Roots. It can even work on ranged mobs if you can LoS around a corner.
The first boss can get ugly if dps isn't doing their job and dps'ing whoever is getting Ice Tombed. If the tank was getting ice-tombed, and dps wasn't freeing him, that could be the problem.
Regrowth is fantastic and quite possibly the best HPS spell that we have, make sure you have it glyphed.
Sounds like it's the tanks issue, to me. Who knows? Maybe he's started a threat in the Pally forums saying "I leveled as Ret, and was tanking my first heroic. I was getting slammed. Help!". Hehe.

Healing heroics with 1500 sp should be fine. You should be able to heal all of them with that much spell power. Your tank was a bit squishy, at least lacked a bunch of stam enchants, so you will have to mix in nourish and regrowth with your HoT stacks to keep him alive. Don't be surprised if you are spamming him with heals, as this is pretty normal in all heroics. Taking 2 hits of 6k off the bat makes me think he's not getting his holy shield up fast enough. Some pally tanks do fail pretty hard if they don't do their job right and get some bad luck with holy shield not up(which should never happen, and he should block 1.3k or more of that damage nearly every time he gets hit).
But, healing heroics and failing will help you. You learn how to max out your heals with the new talents, since heroics are dependent on you staying on the ball. They are very healer oriented. Having a good tank helps a lot tho.

I am at 1500 heals, but my HoT's couldnt keep up with the pally tank's damage. I went in to each pull putting full 3 lifeblooms and a regrowth on him.
Your problem is you're relying only on HoTs. While they are still our primary heals, they are not our only source of healing, and Regrowth/Nourish/Swiftmend are necessary supplements
Restoration druid healing is different than it was in BC, where Lifebloom was OP. Just need to learn to make use of more of your spells.
Whoops, didn't read all of your post. Yeah, the tank could've been squishy as well.
