The old system was easy enough to figure out. Mutilate required dual daggers, so Assassination was the dual-dagger spec. Ambidexterity amplified the physical damage output of your off-hand weapon, so Combat worked best when dual-wielding heavier weapons. Subtlety was in between, usually seeing a heavy weapon in the main and a dagger in the off hand.
Now, Assassination still uses Mutilate, and Mutilate still requires two daggers, but Ambidexterity is gone and Hemorrhage is confusingly worded. "203% if a dagger is equipped"... does that mean equipped in the main hand, or does Hemo still do 203% damage if you're using a heavy main and a dagger in the off?

As
Combat
you now can use any
off-hand weapon
, but that will affect rate of applying deadly poison.
Hemorrhage
Deals
140%
of weapon damage(
203%
if dagger equiped)

Sub is also daggers, but will work if your non-dagger is better than your dagger. Combat is non-daggers mainly.

That was always the case. Nothing has changed there.

Thanks for reposting the thing that I needed clarification about without actually clarifying it. That totally answers my question.
*rolleyes*

Why?

Hemorrhage
and
Backstab
is your main sub spec cp generating abilities. Hemo debuff should be applied at the start of the fight, followed by SnD, followed by 5 point
Rupture
.
Hemo does slightly more dmg with daggers equipped than compared to slow sword/mace/axe/fists, and much more damage compared to fast sword/mace/axe/fists if there is such a thing in end game loot tables.
Backstab
CLEARLY
says requires a dagger in the MH, but it is just best to have daggers in both MH and OH. And you should ALWAYS try to use backstab over hemo, just like feral druids need to use shred vs mangle or rake.
TL;DR: use daggers in assassin/sub spec, use sword/mace/axe/fists on main hand for combat (could use any agil based weapon on off hand, for now) if you don't want to be laughed at and turned down when applying to any serious raiding guild who's rogue class leader knows the
BASICS
of being a rogue.
Edit: if you don't believe us, feel free to strip naked, find a lvl 60 target dummy, equip a sword/mace/axe/fists with 2.6 speed, use hemo on the dummy, then compare that dmg done with a 1.8 speed dagger.
Is a list of white/grey items you can find to test. make sure they have the same "Damage per Second" value.

Okay, after a while, I realized that my weapon setup wasn't going to determine my spec, because "Duh, I'm doing PvE, and Combat is always the PvE spec". So I picked Combat.
Then I noticed that I had learned Ambidexterity. What? The spec selection screen doesn't say a damn thing about ambidexterity! I thought it had joined Raptor Strike in the Great Taskbar in the Sky when the 5.0 patch went live. The spec-selection screen doesn't tell you everything you're getting anymore? What madness is this?
So yeah, now my rogue is rolling with dual swords. Whatever.

The Spec Selection screen only shows main abilities. You have to click on the "Combat" tab of your Spell book to see all the abilities and all the Passives that comes with a spec. Also,
Ambidexterity
isn't the deciding factor of your OH. Even though Combat isn't the "Poisons Spec" it still has a significant influence on your damage so you still have to take poison application into consideration.

He actually pushed you to figure the answer yourself pretty well. What it means is that Hemorrhage deals 140% damage of a equiped weapon. Would it be mace, sword or a polearm. And it does these 140%
WITH THE EQUIPED WEAPON
. 203% of the damage
if the equiped weapon is a dagger
.
So what you will hold in the other hand doesn't matter at all.
Hope that helps.
