its not harder
they better...you mean pre-wotlk? everyone is better from that time.....there is "the way to go" then you wrong game playing , game got prety adjusted so you can play what ever you want, EVEN RET is welcome now in raid (pre-wotlk they was in question, pre-tbc it was a joke)

if you got a good tank, not really matter much on the threat ....as they WILL have much more then everyoe else if he/she not undergeared or DPS burst like hell in start/ninja pull
holy is best single target healer end of line, but you got glyph of holy light and BoL so you can do good aoe healing to(not best but its ok), not say that you can stack crit for mp5 (mana back on crit) and if plate spellcaster gear drop its you only can use it ;) only downside i see with holy is little variation (flash of light and holy light....and shock now it got better) but you not need more!

none tree is useless
Prot can do good damage(and treath) and take much damage
Holy can do great healing and can solo able
both got one thing in common, always a group that need one of them;)
