Okay so today I did it... Loken down.
Let me give you the successful group make-up.
Holy Paladin (me) 1.7K SP, 21k mana, 140 haste.
DK Tank, 26k HP
Combat Rogue
Enhancement Shaman
FFS Mage
Hokay so, I figured out a rotation that allowed me to actually heal through this fight (im sorry if you feel this is too involved, however I know there are alot of holy paladins who have trouble with this fight so I'll try to explain my method exactly).
Beacon on Tank
Sacred Shield on Rogue
Sacred Shield on Shaman
Sacred Shield on Me
Flash of Light on Rogue
Flash of Light on Shaman
Flash of Light on Me
Holy Light on Mage
Infrequently the tank would be in need of a holy shock, but for the most part soaking up the beacon handled it.
Loken down, 60% mana using this sort of technique. Something important that I have learned in this fight is that AOE damage looks differently based upon how much HP a player has. For example, a tank with 20k hp that takes 4k damage loses 20% of his bar, when a 12k hp mage takes 4k damage he loses 33% of his bar... both of those can be healed the same way with a flash of light, so don't misconstrude the size of the bar and cast holy light when a flash will suffice.

Yeah, probably the most epic fight of the game so far for me.
I wiped 22 times on him prior to downing him (in various groups, lol).

Normal loken was hard for me at 77 as ret in t5 holy gear, 1.4k sp
Downed him but was hard as hell, wouldn't even attempt it on heroic.
Grats anyway on your kill and nice technique.
I'd would be if the healer is specced ret..

Just stack on the tank and let your Holy Light (with glyph) do the work, you guys will be hit hard if you dont stack anyways by his arc lightning. Don't worry about OOM either, the fight is suppose to end in 2 minutes or else you are doing something wrong. Im not boasting, theres an achievement for this and its not hard to get.

Actually, if you have 3 smart, quick response people in the group, it's rather easy. You won't get the achievement 3 manning it, but it's possible.
The key, keeping beacon on the tank. I like the arc bouncing. It keeps my FoL useful, and heals the off target and the tank at the same time.
I did this as a dps as well, and managed to squeek out the win when everyone died and I had 1k hp left and he started channeling with 1% hp.
My strategy that works better than any other strategy I've seen, heard, or tried.-
Do it same as normal. Stack on the tank, and MOVE when he starts casting. The easiest way, since we are pallies, is move to safe distance, and start casting again. Make sure the TANK stands on you. Be clear that once you stop, you won't move, so he HAS to stack on you to keep you in range. None of that charge back to the boss crap! Wait for him to get back to the group.
The best way I've found to recognize, and start moving ASAP is to start your assault with the stack on tank, then turn your screen around so you are looking at his back. Zoomed all the way out, all you see is his back, and a little space on each side of the screen. This makes it easy to see when he starts casting. Lightning from the ground to his hands appears on your screen, click both buttons. Stop everything, and just move. If everyone does this, it's easy as pie. Maintain beacon on the tank, and SS whoever gets the arc so they absorb the next aoe ticks, and you can get a few crit flashes in succession.
That's it.
No rotations. No special issues. Just move. After that, it's just like any other boss. And for some reason, when you stack on the tank, he seems to take less damage. Melee dps will lose some dps, yes. Expertise cap is hard to acquire. But, you survive, and everyone is in the same location, making LoS and range a non-issue.
I have downed loken 5 times on heroic. 3 of the 5, it ended with me healing, tank, and 1 dps left, and we just grind him down. He really doesn't dish out much damage to the tank, so the AOE cast is the ONLY issue with this fight. If you can't move when it's time, flash of light spam for 2 minutes, and maintain beacon on the tank, sure, it'll be a hard fight.
I healed this successfully for the first time with a 30k hp druid tank, and I had 1270 sp. True story, and I'm not exagerating.
