Then I realized that amounts to 4200ish mana per use, whereas the Egg Shell spits out WAAY more mana regen than that. Potentially double that regen, in fact.
475 / 5 * 30 = 2850 IF the shell holds (not probable in raids).
Also 5700 per use, but, well, nothing else.
The int itself from core gave you 1440 passive regen in 2 minutes (per cooldown), and this number will only increase with additional spirit.

Egg Shell breaks if you get sneezed on, and it's significantly worse if it breaks.
From the Egg Shell page:
In the absolute best case scenario (The shield wears off after 30 seconds, and is used every 2 minutes exactly) this trinket is worth
475*30/5 + 5700=
8550 mana or
356.25 MP5
In the absolute worst case scenario (shield pops before a single tick, while still used every 2 minutes exactly) it's still worth
5700 mana or
237.5 MP5
From the Core page:
Priests: SQRT(INT)*Spirit*0.16725 = mp5 trough spirit
4202 intellect
SQRT(4202) ~64,822835 * 1926 * 0.16725 = 2088,095 mp5 when its up
So basically it returns 8352,38 mana on use.
2088,095864 / (120/20) = an effective
348,015977 mp5 from spirit.
In my guild, a average fight takes about 7 minutes, or 420 seconds. (420/5) * 348,015977 = roughly 29233 mana returned.
Of course, this is not accurate for every priest because of the amount of intellect I started calculating with... heck, this isn't even accurate for myself because I won't hit it as soon as a fight starts, but once I'm like 5k mana down, so nothing is lost.
Now, when we bare in mind stuff like replenishment with the 321 int... This is a solid trinket for mp5 and throughput, definitely worth getting imo.
Hope this was worth something to someone somewhere ^^
4.2k int is not a ridiculous number by any stretch. Kitch has 3865 with one trinket on. With a trinket with a crap ton of passive int cough Core cough? He'd be just a hair underneath that.

I have mentioned before on this question that I find the Corrupted Egg Shell is difficult to use in raid environments because damage is being randomly shot around the raid that it is impossible to find any safe target to use it on for full effect. I could find situations in 5 player groups but in raids its crazy to use a slot with no stat and an effect this fragile.

Max mana doesn't do much.
If it gave 5K extra mana, that's 750 from a Divine Plea, which I rarely pop, due to the 50% debuff.
What he means is that over the fight, the Egg Shell would need to beat Core's regen by more than the bonus starting mana core gives.
Mana in fight = starting mana + regen
Core boosts both, shell boosts regen only. In a 7 minute fight, both trinkets popped 4 times, the shell's regen would need to be higher than 25% of the mana from the core's int.
Oh, and lets not forget that int has other benefits as well. Also, until the patch, the spirit from Core is affected quite massively by Mana Tide Totem, so a single use of Core will be worth several egg shell usages if paired with Mana Tide. I just don't see any situation where the shell could beat it out. I use heroic tear and heroic witching in my holy gear because intellect is better than anything, and I don't feel that the shell would help me more than it would hurt.

This.
The Egg Shell is good in 5 mans because the majority of the time you can keep it up on yourself and enjoy the regen.
However, it's awful for raiding. There is constant AoE damage coming from all directions and there isn't anywhere safe to keep the on-use effect up.
