Assuming you're Alliance (otherwise I'm not sure why you'd want to go there).
Three methods I know of.
One, swim north up the coast from Stormwind. This will be long and tedious, but easy. Note that there are level 28 and 29 murlocs directly south of Menethil, but these aren't hard to avoid.
Two, go east from Ironforge to Loch Modan. Then head north, through the tunnel into Dun Algaz. Just follow the road from there -- the road starts heading north out of Dun Algaz, then curves to the west. Mind the crocolisks on the way, but this route isn't much more difficult than swimming up from Stormwind (I've made it to Menethil on a level 14 character using this route, although I did have to run screaming from a few orcs and crocolisks).
Three, if you can get to Theramore, simply take the ferry over to Menethil.

Get a potion of water walking or 2 off the ah and take off runing from SW easiest way in my opinion. That or get a DK with the Bike.

Just take the tram to ironforge. Swimming is slow as hell.

Requires level 35. If you're 35 you can just use a mount and run from IF.

No disagreement, but I included it for two reasons. One, it's how my druid found Menethil, and with Aquatic Form the trip wasn't too bad. Except that I kept expecting to find hostile monsters, but that's my own paranoia. And two, I didn't want to have someone point it out and then have to say "well yeah, but I don't like that route."

Before my time, so here I was all impressed with myself to making it to Menethil at level 14. Thanks for stealing my accomplsihment. ;)
More seriously, how would a level 6-10 Night Elf get to Menethil to be able to make the trip? Not a snark question, I'm honestly curious about how the routes were revised, and I'm not sure how I'd look it up on the wiki. Was there a ferry from somewhere other than Auberdine? Did the ferry from Auberdine go somewhere other than Stormwind? Maybe there was an intercontinental gryphon flight, complete with snacks and a movie?

Even if you never had to corpse hop, it was just a really long run on foot just to get to an area where people actually leveled.

Ask a mage to port you to Theramore?
Or take boat from Bootybay to Barrens. Than ride south until you hit the next southern map.

She's was there on day 1.
The ports happened in BC, I think 2.2 or 2.3
