Boar is the ONLY PvP pet in my opinion.
Charge immobilizes the opponent, stubs, interruped spellcast, ect.
The freezing trap strategy doesn't work out so well, as the CD takes too long to be reliable, and if your opponent is right behind you, the trap won't pop, making you waste even more time by having to circle around and hope your foe blunders into it.
And I disagree about your "Job" in an arena. It really depends on your spec.
As a BM hunter, my job is to sic my pet on a caster/healer to keep them from casting. A pet with 0.99 attack speed plus claw/gore spam usually ruins a caster's day. Plus if they CC the pet, just pop beastial wrath, and you can almost hear the frustrated grunt from the other person.

So as a BM hunter your job in the arena is to lets youre Beast Mastery speced boar run in whilst his pet hunter fires from as far away as possible? :p
I'm gonna get flamed for that ;) but I just HAD to say it :p
On a serious note ANY pet that has a high dps is quite a good choice for PvP as a hunter, any pet that can learn Dash/Dive/Charge/Warp is also a good choice if you want to close up the gap and start your pet dpsing a little quicker.

i think we can all agree that in BG's hunters should stay at range as much as possible. To add to that:
-choosing the right classes to attack. pallys are a waste of time lol. squishies like rougues, locks, and mages are better targets.
-very important, and what many hunters do not do enuff, is kick back after a fight and wait for your cooldowns to reset. dont rush into another fight. nothing sucks more that having none of your special abilities available.
besides- whats the rush??

mind you it's kind of hard to say that rogues are squishy anymore -.-....apart from the shit geared ones most rogues in arena gear are a f**king pain in the ass, cloak of shadows through traps, pvp trinkets( yeh i know all of us gettem) and alot of other abilities make them a pain -.-, then you get warriors, heh GL all warriors usually target us 1st because we are 1 of the bigger damage dealers in pvp.once you get hamstring on you, unless you have imp wing clip or entrapment, your pretty well boned
I don't know if you're talking about rogues or hunters...
But if a warrior hamstrings me, I can just use beastial wrath... wing clip... kite.
Dead warrior.
