Think of it this way, if you're a healer; Once you hit end game content, and start raiding, you'll be one of the people the group relies upon, and nothing beats the satisfaction of seeing the boss fall dead, and the loot rolled for, and knowing you played a crucial role in helping get this far.
As for getting to the big stuff, I hear the "Shadow" talent specialization is nice for leveling.

Holy > Shadow before Vampiric Touch; Shadow has no spammable spell.
I completely agree with the satisfaction of healing though.
