Future reference.. your pet quests given by your trainer become available at level 10.
To answer your question, - speak to the trainer again. There may be an option which says something the effect of "<Name>, I need another training rod." If not, the as the poster above suggests.. drop the quest and then accept it again. The trainer will then give you a new rod.
