gave 0/31/40 a whirl the other night by the way, its a one trick pony, but for boss fights it really does have the goods. About 6-7% more dps than fg/emberstorm, and about the same as 2/13/56 for me.
Hybrid builds are viable, but on the whole blizz has put some very nice talents at the higher end of desto and aff, so a build based around either one is going to want the top end talents. Aff especially is a very top heavy tree.

that's a levelling/soloing/farming spec. not great for raiding. it may have some viability in PvP but i'm not the one to comment on stuff like that.
