I bought my son a Nintendo Wii.

It's comforting to see my childhood franchises still around today, the likes of Sonic, Mario Brothers and a few others are still around and appealing to youth. I bought it mostly for my son, but having been a gamer for the last 20 years I had my intent to play with it. Games such as Mario Kart, Wii Sports Resort, Super Smash Bro's - all great games I've heard lots about, but never had the privilege to play until recently.
I must say though, it made me feel very old. I could not get used to Mario Kart, the entire time I was turning with the joystick itself I just kept wishing I could use the buttons instead and I kept telling myself, 'What happened to the good old days where you turned with a diagonal button or a joystick?'.
Heh, but my son took to it immediately. I guess it is a sign of me getting old, touch screen phones, iPads, those type of things don't appeal to me. Our stove top even works with touch screen and I was befuddled, wondering where the dials are lol. First time I had to read the manual of any appliance ever.
Where as my son adapts to these things naturally. It's quite funny because not too many years ago my parents were always telling me how I adapted so quickly to new technology being released.
I guess something happens during that gap where teenagers have to 'become' grownups. The last console I did own was a PSP and PS2 back in 2008.
What about you guys? Have you adapted well to the newer technologies of today?

It's my job, so i'm kinda forced to keep up a bit. Though i must admit, some of the newer things are starting to seem unnecessary to me.
- 3D TV? I have one, i watched one movie and now the glasses are gathering dust.
- 90" TV's? I can hardly fit that through my door.
- Kinect, PS Move or Wii? I want to kick back with my controller, not wave at my TV.
- 4G? Awesome. Now i can load my lolcats pictures even faster.
- Wireless charging? It's the same as a dockingstation only you don't have to plug in your phone.
I'd prefer it if they'd stop putting useless crap in equipment and focus on what matters (or what I consider matters).
- Why's my iPhone still empty after a day's use?
- Why do i still need different cables and chargers for everything?
- And WHERE'S MY HOVERBOARD?

- And WHERE'S MY HOVERBOARD?
This is one of the biggest questions of life, second only to "What is the meaning of life?"
Slightly more on topic, I can't really say how fast I adjust, since my family cannot afford the latest and greatest in technology. I will say that I used to be good at it, and that it most likely wouldn't take me long to adapt, if I'm interested in what I'm adapting to.

As for the Wii, like all video game consoles, it's designed with kids in mind, even if the games aren't; if your kid wasn't able to pick it up quickly and play it, then the company would be losing money.

I actually didn't think about that. I guess I am old then if I still had the mentality that all games and genre's are aimed at my demographic.

You make some great points, I watched Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter in 3D and after the first 10 minutes it wore off on me. Back in my day 3D glasses were blue and red, today's look pretty suave.
Universal chargers would be awesome, I'm sure the only reason they don't exist is so the loss of chargers funnels more money to the manufacturers.
I agree with your point on the Wii, nothing better than being lazy on the sofa but killing hordes in game. But I think it touches on Adamsm's point of the Wii being aimed at younger more energetic gamers.

It's not that it's completely aimed at kids, but of the big 3, the Wii is the most family friendly console after all, but honestly, I can't think of a console system since the video game wars started that wasn't 'simple' to pick up and play...except maybe the Virtual Boy, but that thing was pure evil.

I have a "universal charger". It cost £47 and it can connect car lighter, USB, mains to laptop, phone, etc, plus it has a variable resistor (or whatever it is that changes voltage).
My friend bought a 3D TV, neglected to get insurance and it was stolen within a month. :(

3D TV?
3D TV is one of those "innovations" designed by marketing droids to get suckers at Best Buy to replace their TVs for no reason. I keep praying to various gods that the 3D craze suffers a swift yet infinitely painful death.

It could just come as a standard yet rarely used addendum. After all, it's the intermediate step to holograms.
