Every heroic needs some
CC. How much will vary on your groups' gear more than anything. And yes, expect to wipe a lot when people don't know all the fights. My first time in H-Deadmines with a good guild group
took over 2 hours because none of us had done any of the fights/trash before and were 100% winging it. Granted, I think that's the longest heroic right now (that or H-HoO), but we had fun =P.
If you're starting
heroics and use 0 CC you're not going to get to the first boss, so plan accordingly.
My first HC was deadmines. All group but the healer were guildies.
One of us has done the instance. I knew about bosses but not about the trash. We had 2 warlocks and a pala. The instance is heavy on humanoids so the CC abilities weren't that effective.
After 3 hours and a repair bill of 85g I gave up. We downed 4 bosses, and were just before last one, but it was 1 am local time and there was work the next day, so...
The trash were not easy, they made me really think about cooldown timing, what set of tools the warrior tank has to survive longer. I found myself doing things that during LK I didn't think I'll every try, just to survive a pack of 2 ogres.
This is the way it's meant to be done. It should be hard, it should force you to learn all your class's abilities, you should learn correct cooldown timing.
To summ it up, heroics should prepare you for raids, not just gear wised.
I think, that to a very large extent, it's acheived.
