Why does everyone seem to assume those with enchanting are masters of knowing the best enchant for every item?
Typical Dialogue:
Random Person: Anyone an Enchanter?
Me: <I link my Enchanting>
Random Person: What's the best enchant for <insert random item here>?
Me: I don't know! Sorry!
Let me be very clear: If you want a specific enchant, I can do it for you. But just because I leveled up enchanting, does not mean I know the best enchants on every single item in the game, such as the best enchants for caster pve, for melee pvp, etc.
So please, don't ask me to recommend an enchant for you. If you've already done YOUR homework, figured out which enchant you NEED, maybe even got the mats already, then I can help you out, and enchant it for you. But it's not my job to figure out the best enchant for someone.
Any other enchanters out there get annoyed from this too?

If you change all instance of Enchanting to Jewelcrafting then I agree with you completely. Haven't had that issue with my enchanter yet though.

Yeah Jewelcrafters run into the same problem and annoyance too I would think, although I haven't done Jewelcrafting yet to find out firsthand.

You know what I hate? The browsers.
"LF Blacksmith with ICC recipes."
I link him my blacksmithing. No response. No response. I whisper back "Well, do you still need me, where do you want to meet?" Typical response of "Oh, I was just looking," or "Man that stuff is expensive."
That or you have the "Do you have mats?" or "How much with your mats?" This is especially stupid for items like
Shatterer
. Yeah, I'm level 80 but I certainly have 4 Core of Earth, 5 Citrines, Thick Leather, and Jade laying around in my bags for you. Or "Can you craft
Pillars of Might
, your mats?" I respond with "Yeah, that will be 14,000 gold" and am I surprised by the indignant responses? No.

Guess it is only your job ( PROFESSION ) if you want to try and make money from it. The gall of some people, thinking you know something about your own profession!
Don't try to make fun of someone before you know the facts. You assumed I was trying to "make money" from Enchanting. I leveled Enchanting so I could get the ring enchant bonuses for myself. And in the scenario I described in my original post, I linked my Enchanting for someone needing an Enchanter, I wasn't actively posting "LFW" to sell things. Is it unfeasible that not every Enchanter is trying to make money? I'm sure there are others out there like me. Don't assume, icebeard7.
Or even Enchanters looking to make money, who still get annoyed at people for not knowing what they want/need.
Probably because you should have a very good idea about what they are! If you are NOT figuring out the best enchants for others, how do you know what to offer or even what recipes to purchase?
I don't "offer" anything. And when I do occasionally try to make money on Enchanting, I'll use the auction house. Either Disenchanting greens/blues and selling the dust/shards/essence, or finding Weapon Vellums/Armor Vellums and picking a few key Enchants which sell for a lot. It still doesn't mean I'm a master at everything! Knowing which enchant is the best on your Hand gear, cause you're a PvE Resto Shaman. Or knowing which Chest enchant is best for PvE Paladin tanking, etc. I don't know everything about Enchanting, which was my point all along!
And how do I know what recipes to purchase? Again, you assumed I'm trying to sell useful recipes! I'll get whatever recipes I want, for fun. Just because I'm an Enchanter, it doesn't mean I'm this serious, business person in-game, trying to max out my sales and get every high-selling enchant possible. Nor did I even suggest anything of the kind in my original post.
And yet, icebeard7, your kind of ignorance, in assuming that I should know what enchants are best, because I'm an Enchanter, is the kind of ignorance I was complaining about in my original post! People like you, who assume, are what this post is about!

I just make up something and do the enchant.
or pick the one that is most profitable to yourself, regardless of what they actually might need.
Haha very nice suggestions! I'll keep these in mind. =)

Was it really that far out there, that people might think you know what you are talking about? Hey, you linked enchanting without telling them you ARE CLUELESS. Is it really that bothersome to you that people actually assume you might help them? So you don't know the BEST enchant for every class/spec/level. Maybe next time link your and a disclaimer saying you don't know much about the profession or what is good for others?
I find it a special kind of Ignorance that you would link a profession and be annoyed (to the point you had to post here) when people actually ask you questions about the profession. Maybe that is all they wanted, to question someone with that profession. Maybe they didn't actually want an enchant right then and there, who was making assumptions again?
Lol do you actually have Enchanting or Jewelcrafting? In theory, it'd be nice to help every single person who asks for a recommendation. But there are so many! It gets annoying, all the time. I have answered questions for people many, many times, and have been very helpful, but I'm just getting tired of constantly spending my time to help someone figure out something they could have easily figured out themselves.
And yes, there are some people who might just want to 'ask me questions'. But I find those people are generally clueless, and lazy, not looking up the information themselves. It's not like it's a complicated ordeal to figure out which enchant is best for an item, to check wowwiki or something.
when people actually ask you questions about the profession. Maybe that is all they wanted, to question someone with that profession. Maybe they didn't actually want an enchant right then and there, who was making assumptions again?
Maybe some people want to ask me a different question? I am helpful to those who are curious to know something else. But I'm tired of those who want to know "what enchant is best for "x" slot" instead of reading about their class, understanding what they need, etc.
And again, I wonder, do you have Enchanting/Jewelcrafting? I find, most of the time, when people are curious about a particular item enchant, they then want that enchant.
Maybe they didn't actually want an enchant right then and there, who was making assumptions again? Lol I'm not assuming anything, if they ask me for an enchant for their item, but they don't know which one they want. And my point remains, it's still annoying.
I think you've judged me icebeard7 to be some uncaring, arrogant person unwilling to go halfway to help someone. Like I said, I normally help people, but I'm just saying, it gets really annoying when people expect you to know everything or do everything for them. Why don't they do it themselves? If it's their character they're trying to improve, the enchant that they're going to use, why not figure out what they need? I hate doing work for lazy people.

As I'm not very social, I rarely find myself being asked what someone else should do. The few times this has happened my response has been: 'try
www.wowhead.com'
. It works for 'best enchant/gem etc.', but also 'best gear' and 'where is'.

the vast majority of weapon enchants i have never even done EVER
i have no idea what they look like
You need 'GlowFoSho' addon:
http://wowui.incgamers.com/?p=mod&m=4512
Seriously, this thing is great. I'm on an RP server, so lots of people want a specific kind of glow, and this can show you what they all look like. Be aware some certain weapons just won't show a glow at all though.
As to normal people who just want the best stat boosts, it's well worth taking the time to quickly scan the class forums sticky lists and figure that out, assuming you are into making money with the prof.
