I have been reading about a few fights that mages spec'd into IA are doing very high dps. Thinking about making this my offspec and switching to it on the boss fights that it would be beneficial to do so. I am having problems finding a lot of detailed info on how to set up the spec and use it properly.
Arcane is very powerfull burst itlelf. IA is just a cherry on the top if used correctly.
1. which current fights would the IA spec be beneficial?
Any encounters that include aoe raid damage, which cant be prevented. Getting damaged purpousedly just to proc things is bad idea.
2. what to do if no disc priest in the raid?
Your AI capabilities will be limited to your own skills obviously. Although something may be gained from
Sacred Shield if you happen to have some Palas in raid that dont mind working with you on this.
There is also a
Darkmoon Trinket card which may be usefull for such situations. I cant think of any other absorbtion means at this time.
3. fireward/frost ward, which fights?
Obviously those which include this type of raidwide damage. Its pretty easy to notice that. (Frost: Sarth, Hodir etc, Fire: Ignis, Koralon etc)
4. use Mana Shield?
Depends on your mana management. If you lack replenishement in raid it may be deadly for your MP pool.
5. Magic Absorption, does this need to be included?
I does nothing to IA. Resists =/= Absorbs
I would understand if you asked about
Arcane Shielding, but than again the answer will be Rather not. Mana shield is your least powerfull and least effective way of absorbing damage, i dont think this talent make it any better in this list.
6. whats the "cookie cutter" spec?
I am not really an Arcane expert, but i would probably use something like this:

Keep your cds for the right moment mostly.
8.any other "pro tricks"?
Cant think of any. Unless you call pro an adivice to not stand in bad things still even though you have absorbing effects. Dead dps does no dps.
