me and my friend were fighting about hunters and how useful they are in raids/dungeouns. he said he hated how the trap that freezes a target is the only cc he has. So i was wondering if you were speced into bm couldnt you have a pet off tank a mob for you? or can the other traps be used in some way to keep a target far away from the hunter so they can kite? so i was wondering if i could get some opinions on this

I suppose in theory you could have your pet off-tank a mob for you -- Blizzard said their intent for the BM tree is to allow for effective off-tanking pets -- but in practice you won't be asked to do it often.
The freeze trap is an awesome type of CC if you know how to use it. It affects the widest variety of mob types of any of the forms of CC out there. The downside is the cooldown that is significantly longer than the trap effect time.
However, if you drop one before the pull and position it properly, you can still manage to chain-trap a target 3 or 4 (or more?) times without taking significant damage, even with the cooldown.
IMO, it takes a lot more skill to chain-trap as a hunter than it does to keep a mob sheeped, which for me makes it a lot more fun to pull off.

I don't think that Freezing Trap is a pretty good CC. It gets resisted pretty often, it is troublesome to use, it doesn't last long.
Sap, Poly and Hex are options that are much better when available.
As for pet off tanking... usually is only an option when you out gear the instance or you are geared for pet tanking (but you were probably brought there for DPS, so you won't be doing your job well). Although they are much stronger than they used to be, they will still be killed with ease.
