Yeah. Here's the thing.

Considering we're only at 3.2, and 3.0 was released right at a year ago; anything "state of the art" in 3.1 might not be too far off the mark in the current environment.

All of the topical threads (Best Builds, Fire Mage, Arcane Mage) are currently updated through 3.1. And therefore, despite being a year old, are still current. But of course, not one of those threads (not even the " Mage Leveling" thread) covers leveling from 70 to 80.

So I guess that one needs to be answered. Here you go: The level 80 raiding/heroic builds listed in Best Builds & Mage Leveling are what you need to build towards, depending your preference.

You mentioned a inclination towards Arcane/Fire, so the "Fire(arcane) - Fireball" build in Best Builds section is your cookie cutter. It also discusses Glyphs, Rotation, and when you finally hit level 80, Hit Rating requirements for raids.
