The OP is level 44. Its not a leveling spec I would pick, but if it fits his play style and he can successfully complete quests etc then let him enjoy "fooling around".
When I level a new mage I often use that as an excuse to fool around with non-traditional specs just to experiment. I know that I'll have to respec for end game so why not?
