Leveling Protection via Quests...worth it?
Return to board index
Like the title says, is it worth leveling as protection when questing or am I better off as retribution?
I just have to start off - great sig! Love it!
Otherwise, I'm a level 70 human Paladin and I've been leveling as ret. With the new leveling speeds I got this char from lvl 0-60 in 1 day and 6ish hours. Its been super fast. At the moment though I'm just entering Northrend and I'm thinking about my offspecs. I've been really tempted to simply change to prot/holy so I walso wouldn't mind knowing your opinions on this. 70-85 is it alright for leveling as prot/holy or should I keep ret? What I'm worried is if I change to these or either one once 85 I won't have any experience to deal with lv 85 situations and meet general expectations.
If you're questing, Ret's little perks just speed leveling along. Don't underestimate a runspeed bonus, that stuff is pretty potent at quest grinding.
But I've noticed that queueing with LFD can be faster leveling if you're getting the queue to pop immediately. There's a surefire way to do this and that's by playing as a tank.
So far i have level 2 Pallies as Prot and though it is a tad slower then Ret, it is still super fun to pull an a$$ ton of quest mobs all at once, i have also found it to be fine practice for them thar dungeons. Just my 2 copper.
Going to say
is actually faster. The only perk besides obvious DPS boost, is the run speed. But there just aren't a lot of "run as fast as you can, kill one mob and run as fast as you can back" typ quests. 90% of quests consist of "kill x mobs", "gather x items (that drop from mobs)", or named/3-man elite quests. Protection excels at gathering up 4+ mobs, burning them down and still having full health/mana. Lets not forget that almost all instances have quest givers IN them now. So in that regard, insta queue > all. Ret is faster than a
, but not Prot. If you must, I'd say spend the 10 gold at level 30 and dual spec into Ret and have both. Just my two copper
For leveling it depends on how well grouped together mobs are. The ability to kill four mobs at a time isn't terribly useful if by the time you gather up the third mob the first two have leashed back to their spot.
Prot is faster, provided you level in areas where mobs are insanely tightly packed.
