"Sir! Sir! It lo-lo-looks dangerous! You are not going to make me go in there, are you?" Gnizzlebub exclaimed as he looked on. About twenty meters ahead of them, hugging the eastern mountain range, was a deep cave. Icicles hung like teeth in a lions mouth in the cave. The wind gushed by, making a sound like a whisper. Many tales of gnomes driven mad to these whispering winds haunted Gnizzlebub. He turned his scarred and worried eyes to his tall companion and friend, Seth.
"Yes, friend. Our long travels end in there. After today, we shall be free to go home." Seth replied simply. His cryptic yet powerful words were quite meaningful. A year earlier, Seth was hot on the trail of the Deathknight that nearly killed him, Cain. Yet he lost him, and learned that he fled to Winterspring. Much trekking later, he was finally where the cultist that spilled the beans said Cain was. Over the course of his travels, anger built up to a degree he would lash out on innocent Gnizzlebub. The gnome would over time calm Seth down, and learn more of Seth's goal. Gnizzlebub, despite being a little un-eased as first, agreed to aid Seth.
Without another word, Seth marched headlong into the cave, without any regret. His little sidekick, however, argued whether or not to go. Yet his loyalty proved strong, and sprinted after Seth. The two walked away from the sun and light, and into the void of darkness in the cave. Seth continued his stride without any halter or hesitation. Gnizzlebub was more skittish, looking in every which way possible.
"I hate the dark." Gnizzlebub murmured. He began biting his finger nails and breathing quite hard. In and out, in and out Gnizzlebub's breathing grew louder and louder. It grew to a point that Seth had to turn and bring a finger to his mouth to shush the terrified gnome. Gnizzlebub nodded, and tried to calm down. His breathing may have slowed down, but his heart did not. Whatever was down there, could probably hear his heart pump.
"The Light is my guide. It makes me lie down in the lush land of pleasantness. It leads me beside the still waters of the corrupt. It restores my soul, it leads me in the paths of righteousness for the Light. I walk through the valley of shadow and death, I will fear no evil, for the Light is with me. My hands and sword comfort me." Seth prayed. However this did not comfort Gnizzlebub much. The secular gnome was not a man of faith and all that 'mumbo jumbo.'"You speak of guidance? Of pleasantness? I shall lead you down the valley of death, paladin!"
A booming voice called out from deep inside the cave.
"Gnizzle-crunk!" Gnizzlebub swore as he held his head low. Seth turned his head from side to side slowly, then kept on going. The heir to the Lighthammer was determined to find Cain, and end this.
Up ahead, Seth could hear a low mumble, a conversation. Seth turned to Gnizzlebub and placed a finger in front of his lips. Gnizzlebub nodded. Seth began taking slow shuffles forward. Every step, he could hear the conversation more clear. Suddenly, the paladin and gnome found themselves looking at a fairly small clearing in the cave. Several lanterns hung from the walls, and a ritual circle full of runes illuminated in the center. Inside the runes were two figures talking, one in heavy plate armor and the other in a cultist robe. Seth tried his best to listen to the conversation."Slaughtering...Lights Hope...Finally end it..."
A very strong voiced man echoed out.
"Boy...die...Scourge...triumpthent...Kel'Thuzad...begun...Naxxramas...Lighthammer...dead..." A more frail and aged voice, presumably the robed one, spoke.
Gnizzlebub screamed. Seth quickly covered the gnomes mouth with his hand, but their cover was already blown. The two in the runes turned to their direction. The robbed one fled away and went down a side tunnel. The heavily armored man laughed, and brought out a large sword. Seth shook his head, knowing very well that they were discovered. Gnizzlebub eyes showed sorrow, but Seth ignored him.
"Come Lighthammer! Let us finish this! Fungal Vale was merely a setback for the Scourge!" Cain called out.
Seth slowly paced down the remaining tunnel into the opening. The lanterns fire turned purple, and the rune circle glowed intensely. Cain's armor was that of giant shoulder pads with spikes, a blue metallic chest and leg armor, and a skull around his waist. Cain brought out a large blue sword that glowed blue with tiny skulls flying from it. Seth pulled off his fur cloak. A glorious golden chest plate with a lion's head glowed. His legs had plate armor and mail armor connecting it all.
"Does that make you feel pretty, Seth?" Cain taunted. His ice blue eyes sparkled as he went into a laughing fit.
Seth remained calm despite the jab. However this was not the same for Gnizzlebub. The gnome scowled at the death knight, trying his best to be intimidating. Seth looked down at the gnome to his side. "On my mark, friend," Seth assured him with a grin. The paladin turned his attention back to Cain, and in a flash, went into a full speed sprint towards the death knight. Seth raised his glorious sword above head, ready to end it with one fatal blow. Cain did not budge, and only brought his sword into a horizontal position across his chest. The brave and young paladin brought his sword down with tremendous strength.
For Cain to easily parry it. The clash made a very loud crash
sound like dishes crashing. Seth held off a bit while Cain remained motionless. A stare off ensured.
"Go ahead paladin, make my day." Cain continued with his taunts. Seth remained firm in his stance, not budging. He looked over to Gnizzlebub for a moment. The gnome was still off a bit. He did not blame the gnome, he did not really sign up for a battle with death itself. If anything, he was proud the gnome made it this far without turning back. Bravery was indeed in that little heart. Yet Seth had more pressing matters then Gnizzlebub. Cain grew restless, and soon enough, attacked head on. Seth easily dodged the slow jab that would have impaled the paladin. He returned with a volley of holy light against the death knight. Cain hallowed in agony, yet had enough focus to cast and fire off a shadow bolt that hit Seth's legs. Seth lost his balance and tripped over. The death knight quickly went in for the kill.
Cain brought down his glowing sword on Seth's back. The young paladin had enough reaction time to roll over, avoiding immediate death and only receiving a deep gash in his side. Seth jumped to his feet, yet suddenly felt the waves of pain from the gash. He held his side with sword still in hand. The death knight snickered.
"Too easy, like in the Vale. Your friends are not here to rescue you this time," Cain cracked his neck in triumph. In a blink of an eye, he casted another bolt of shadow at Seth, sending the paladin to the wall. The paladin's sword was thrown across the chamber. Seth was on the verge of blacking out.Damn.
"Like I said, too easy," Cain continued on. He thrusted his sword into the ground and cracked the undead bones in his fingers. "I suppose your little friend would like to die as well?" Cain finished. He sensed Gnizzlebub become very frightened. He could hear his heart beat frantically.
Out of the blue, Seth began chuckling, and soon the chuckling grew into laughter. The paladin held his side yet did not deter his laughter.
"What is this? A last stand? Is this where you show the goodness in life and humanity? Well buddy it aint gunna work!" Cain roared. He pulled out his sword and pointed it at Seth.
"No, it is just," The paladin had to pause due to laughing too much, "it is just how much you failed! Gnizzlebub, now!" Seth called out.
A click followed by a strange chick-ching
. Cain turned his head towards where Gnizzlebub was located, to find the gnome resting a mini rocket launcher on his shoulder. The gnome was looking down the sight, directly aiming at the death knight. Cain swore something unspeakable and began running to the gnome.
"Gnizzle-blow!" The gnome called out as he squeezed the trigger. A rather small and red rocket, the size of Gnizzlebub himself, launched towards Cain. In one second, the death knight was in full sprint, the next Cain was scattered in a million pieces in every direction. His armor was shattered, and his sword was sent into the ceiling several meters in. Limbs of the undead warrior was splattered against the wall and ground. Gnizzlebub was shaking as he held the empty launcher, now aimed at Seth.
"Settle, Gnizzlebub," Seth chuckled. The paladin slowly got up. He touched his side with a glowing light aura to help it heal. "You did great, friend." He added. Gnizzlebub shined and grinned like a maniac.
"I liked the part he blew into a million pieces," Gnizzlebub remarked."Lighthammer, you are such a fool. Cain let his undeath existence go 'boom' for a greater good. He was a tool, a distraction for you. And he succeeded greatly. You left your Lordaeron defenseless to pursue your own vendetta. Your journey shall end in Blackrock, if you dare. You know what I speak of. However, Lordaeron will not stand much longer. Kel'Thuzad thirsts!"
Gnizzlebub looked up to Seth once more, head shaking. "What the hell
was that?" He demanded.
“I have no idea, friend,” Seth muttered while looking around the cave.
