Well, as in all pvp versus combat, the way to beat the rock to your scissor is to get a good jump on them. The general core of the rock paper scissor is that the better class will be on the offensive, because they are the ones dishing out more dps than you, but if you make them go defensive, you will have the upperhand, better class or not.
SO once you have the ambush down, the hunter will have less time to send his pet, for example. You get your first dps spell off, before his pet gets to you. You shoot him up, but once you get his pet on top of you, you can click that DoT combo macro.
So, an overview 1) you shoot of ur casted spell before he shoots you or gets his pet, to interupt
2) AFTER hes pet starts to attack you, you can start your instance spells. (because they cant be interupt and you dont waste time)
His DPS will be greater than you so, even after you finish this strategy, you will be back on defensive.
Now, that your DoTs are casted and you are interupted each time you try to cast, you have no more DPS on him..... do you? There IS a way to stop it. you can sacrafice your VW to stay immune to the PETS dps, while you just fear the hunter himself. You can shoot off some Shadow Bolts, drain life or immolate or incinerate even. By this time you should have considerable more hp than him, and can just outlast him in the DPS battle, by keeping him off you with death coil and Dot ting him frequently. Hope this helps.

Yah, a hunter shouldnt kite a ranged class.
another strat, make the hunter kite you 0.0 then pwn him with insta casts and Dots
OR OR OR do something copletely unexpected and come at him with your staff / sword

if your a lock and your losing to a hunter 1v1, your undergeared, poorly spec'd, or just bad.
ive found that a similarly geared hunter(BM) can take my so/so geared lock, about 50/50; rest get owned.

Dude you got 3 pvp epics, dont expect to do anything, once you get around 250-300 res you will start to see things change in your favor. until then keep playing

How the ^&*! are you losing against a hunter? Are you throwing shadowbolts as affliction or what?
This is what you do:
1. You go specc SL/SL.
2. You do Siphon Life, Curse of Agony, Corruption on the Hunter.
3. You throw Curse of Weakness on the pet.
4. You drain. Drain drain and more drain.
If you are resillence capped it wont be a problem.
And if you are not, it shouldnt be a problem anyway.

people have been bitching about hunters since there intro in the game, its an occupational hazard, get over it.

This is what you do:
1. You go specc SL/SL.
2. You do Siphon Life, Curse of Agony, Corruption on the Hunter.
3. You throw Curse of Weakness on the pet.
4. You drain. Drain drain and more drain.
If you are resillence capped it wont be a problem.
And if you are not, it shouldnt be a problem anyway.
lol your silly little life drains dont do much when my dps is 40% higher than yours even with your debuffs and 'dots on.
besides...your cloth wearing tards...oh yea, i said it... keep calling us huntards.

First of all you have to decide, you are beating warlock or not?
5 years now and after hundreds of nerfs you all whine that locks are OP, so if you beat them then you are more than OP, if you don’t, then your poor comment is for laughing.
Personally in one on one I have mostly no problems with hunters, except if they see me first and open on me from maximum distance.
well...the damnedest thing happens...when i ride up on you while you guys are still on your mount...you give my plenty of time to scatter shot and place a nice freeze trap under you so i can run off to safety, and if all fails i still have my insignia...lol
the truth being you guys are all about a plan in battle, meaning you have to know what your going to do ahead of time, and try to predict what im going to do.
im might be shadowmelded and have my pet in prowl at your gy.. or i could be feigning in a bush.
you just dont know, and thats the problem for locks and mages alike. >.^ now try to live as long as you can with a little life drain. lol
