Until you hit level 40 or so, Talents don't play that huge a role in your gameplay. The common opinion seems to be that going into the Retribution tree will help you level the fastest, as it ups your damage output. Once you start getting into your late 30s, then you'll want to do some research on the different talent trees; in short, Holy will allow you to heal, Protection will allow you to tank and AoE farm enemies (gather up a bunch of enemies and kill them all at once, albeit slowly), and Retribution will let you do a lot of damage but only to one or two targets at a time.
Generally speaking, questing in Elwynn will take you one of two directions: into Westfall, or into the Redridge Mountains (and Lakeshire). From there, you'll find yourself headed either to Duskwood (the evil place I think you were talking about), or back to Ironforge and then north into the Wetlands.
Here's
a list of all the zones in the Eastern Kingdoms, sorted by the level range of enemies and quests in that zone. It'll give you a rough path to follow; when you get to the level shown for that zone, head on in and start questing. Note that some of the level ranges are pretty wide, so be careful as you may come up against things that are significantly more tough than you are.
Good luck!
