You are going to want the same stuff until Outland at the very least. Intellect, spell power, and crit are good for both of you. Spirit is more useful for a priest, and hit is more useful for a mage.
As a frost mage, crit is slightly better for you since you have talents that make your critical strikes better.

If you are levelling together I'd give the piece to whoever it's the biggest upgrade for.
Learn to put the needs of the group above your own greed, it'll serve you well if you ever get into a raiding guild.
