m looking to run five mans, with the occasional heroic (I just dinged 70, wanting to get some good raiding gear), so I don't need the hardcore fire build, that takes a while to get rolling. I need a good five man build, along with some PvP support just incase I need to PvP with my buds.
I have come up with two specs. The first being frost. http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0VZZVArcofxoiqt
The casting rotation would be Frostbolt, Frostbolt, Frostbolt, with Icy Veins and Water Elemental/Cold Snap/Icy Veins, Water Elemental on boss fights. This seems to be a pretty good, solid dps spec with decent PvP viability.
Next is Arcane/Frost http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=oi0Vc0fzLGuwZZVA0coc0o
The casting rotation would be Arcane Blast x3, Frostbolt x3, repeat. Once again with Icy Veins and Cold Snap, Icy Veins, and Arcane Missiles when I proc clearcasting. This one seems to be more PvE focused, but still could work well in PvP.
I'm mainly looking for PvE with just a tad of PvP thrown in there. Keep in mind my gear isn't great yet, as I just hit 70, so I'm leaning towards the Arcane one more, as it would help with spell hit and spell damage more, to make up for my gear. Also the Arcane has 225% crit damage on the Frostbolts.
Just looking for what you guys think would be the best for my situation. Thanks.
I posted this in another forum. Here is what one poster said and my reply.
<i>"You can do 5-mans and heroics just fine as a full pvp build, it will just have less dps on boss fights. Most trash can be frozen, so with water elemental and shatter you can arguably push out more dps on those pulls. http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0qcobZZVVGcobxoVqt
is the build I use for pvp and I do just fine in 5-mans and heroics. Just remember to pop water elemental and icy veins and cold snap whenever they're up and you can do fine." </I>
<b>"That does sound tempting. Let's outline the key differences in our specs.
(I do NOT like Arcane Fortitude, so I just swapped a point there. I also considered taking out the two points in Arctic Reach and throwing them in Frost Channeling)
The 17/44 spec gives you Imp Counterspell, which is a good PvP ability. However, I usually use my Counterspell when a person is actually casting a spell, not just blindly throwing it on there for a four second silence. I think interupting there primary tree for 8 seconds is much better than just blindly interupting all schools. However, it is still a good talent, just not groundbreaking.
It also gives you Imp Arcane Explosion, which is decent in both PvP and PvE. Better suited for PvP, but hardly anything to worry over.
The 10/51 spec gives you Frost Channeling, which is nice for PvE, and handy for BG's, but not great. But it is a very good PvE talent, almost increasing dps by 10% if the tank isn't great. It also nets you Elemental Precision, which would mean I wouldn't have to gem any spell hit, or go for any spell hit gear/enchants, which is another nice tradeoff for PvP and PvE. Also, it offers a SMALL mana reduction.
++ Imp Counterspell
++ Imp Arcane Explosion
++ Frost Channeling
++ Elemental Precision
Tough call. And don't forget about that <u>Arcane build! I think it would be fun playing an Arcane Blast, Frostbolt, Arcane Missle mage, as you rarely see them."</u></b>
