Not when the mage's dps is 1/2 of mine. With spellfire and similiar gear vs s1, I could easily double a mage's dps on a boss fight in Kara. They'd be gimping the raid. Waste of a raid space imo. I'd rather 9man it and give the loot/shards to someone more deserving.

Perhaps, but I really doubt it's that much of difference to say sorry you can't go - or whatever. Some really good pvp mages have 900 or more +dmg. Don't tell me that's not good enough for KZ, c'mon.
All situations and raid members require review when it comes to gear, I understand that - but just because a toon may be in pvp gear doesn't mean that mage would gimp the raid.
If you're doing double the dps of a pvp mage, that's awesome - but that pvp mage has issues. PvP gear does NOT hamper your toon THAT much unless SOMEthing is wrong, be it spec or skill.
I'd say you want at least +600 dmg for Karazhan, the more you have, the easier the fights will be.
I guess I sounded harsh, but I do know PVP casters with around 500 spell dmg. That's questionable. With SF and the best blues, you can easily hit 800. I just hate ppl who show up with crappy greens and some PVP epics to raids.

S1 gear (hell, Arena gear in general) can be extremely useful in given situations. In Gruul's you
have
to have a mage tank one of the five ogre councilors, and if you've got 10k health it becomes a lot easier on healers.
That's just one example.
But I would recommend dungeon blues + Spellfire for pure DPS over S1 any day.

I've mage-tanked Gruul's a few times with some +hit gear and X of stamina greens I got off AH cheap. You just want around +10% hit or you're gonna get your spell-steal resisted and that can mean your death and a wipe. Would I have preferred using s1 gear? Definitely. But it was a lot easier/faster to go the green route.
