As a past warrior and paladin tank, and a current DK tank (and I know you don't want DK from your other question you asked before), I can tell you I wish I could stand looking at a bear.
Bears make great tanks, you also can be melee-dps without respec. You can further be ranged dps with a respec or a healer with a respec.
Do not hide behind a shield, if you don't mind looking like a bear.
My answer to not be hiding behind a shield was to be a DK.

-Druids don't have to use Starfire/Hurricane/whatever for aggro while tanking. Ever. The only time it helps is when a boss is at range and unattackable by melee. Hurricane can pull a pack even if it's out of LOS.

Roll a warrior, when played properly, and with the right gear / enchants making sure you are uncrushable as well as making sure your dodge is not to high.. but high enough to dodge alot, thats the downside of a warrior, they require alot of attention to detail and tanking 5-6 mobs in some of your first runs as a tank is gonna be very difficult. But if played properly, they are alot easier to heal, believe me i know, healed and tanked tier 6 on warrior / priest... they are also fun if you like smashing peoples heads in when pvp'ing xD

a feral druid will be incredibly more efficient at leveling, even with a pocket healer like your friend. people are stuck in TBC days and dont think bears make good tanks. If fully spec'd into bear tanking talents, they preform just as well. @ M3rc3nary0, they removed crushing blows from raid bosses (only from mobs 4 levels or higher). Having played both warrior and druid considerably, would recomend the druid.

It is still important to hit 540 def though.
Not for bears :) Survival of the Fittest makes them crit immune from talents, they don't need def gear at all.
