1) Stop the drama before it starts.
2) Make gear looting rules for raids... in my opinion this shares the #1 spot with why people leave guilds (that they think the gear rules are unfair). Sharing the #1 spot is...
3) Rules for going on raids. If your guild is small and just has 1 10-man raid group, I think you won't have to deal with this. If you have more than 10, but less than 20, you'll be having people wanting to sub into your main raid group if one or more doesn't show up... then when they do show up (later than the agreed upon time), they throw a hissy and gquit.
4) Don't be an a-hole. I've been in 2 guilds that have imploded from within, and it's all about people who do not respect/get along with the guild master. the GM always ends up being "it's my way or the highway, if you don't like it, get the F out." which I believe is the wrong attitude for a GM to have. You don't let people exploit you, but you can't just expect them to be subservient and not thinking about themselves all the time.
5) Don't let just anyone get stuff from the guild bank.
6) A "don't beg for run-throughs in /g" rule is always nice. Asking for a run-through is indicative of someone who isn't serious about the game, and, to be flagrantly biased here... an entitled teenager. This is my 15-year old brother to a tee. It's people, who, with every video game they play, require cheat codes. If you have a good friend who will run you through so you can get up to a helpful level for the guild, then bless you both. There are exceptions to the rule, but the guy who just joined as a level 9 last week begging for WC run throughs is automatically categorized in my head as a d-bag. I made the mistake of helping people like this, and then they just keep asking and asking and asking and asking.
