The chapel was a small and unassuming building of stone with its back to the cliffs. It had a clean and cozy look too it that set it apart from its neighbors and made it easily identifiable. An exceptionally burly and thickset man sporting a glorious straw yellow beard was leaning against the front wall, a hickory pipe in his hands trailing thin wisps of smoke.
Correction. Mercer blinked and realized it was a dwarf he was seeing. His forearms were easily thicker than Mercer's own neck, and if this was an average member of the species... But then again, Mercer himself was quite thin.
"-huff- Fine day. Need -huff- help. Have coin, will -huff- pay." Alistair greeted the dwarf. The local seized the two humans up and shrugged, "Dinnae get yer knickers inna bunch, 'tis but a scratch. Come on in, take a seat."
Mercer was barely able to understand the dwarf due to his ridiculous accent; thankfully, the emphatic gestures were much harder to misinterpret. The two were led inside and sat upon a cot, whereupon the dwarf turned to Mercer and raised his arms. He muttered something through his beard and a soft golden radiance dripped off of his fingertips and onto the human, enveloping him in a cocoon; the shining swiftly concentrated solely on the wounded parts, and before their very eyes the blood vanished, the deformations smoothed and even the ruined clothing repaired itself - the latter causing the dwarf to raise his bushy eyebrows in mild surprise.
It felt... Wholesome. Beautiful. Simple and right. Mercer had no words to describe the sensation; he could liken it to a hug from a friend, a taste of honest and down-to-earth food after a day's hard work, warmth of a hearth, a breath of fresh air in the middle of a dry and dusty day. It did not judge, it did not discriminate, it did not shine upon Mercer's wrongs, it was there to comfort and succor.
When the glow subsided, Mercer found himself leaning his back against the wall, grinning blissfully like an idiot. This was good stuff. Not better than sex, not by a wide margin, but coming close to beating good food.
The dwarf eyed him uncertainly, "Yer not one of them junkies, are ye, lad?"
"Wha- Oh, no no no, it's my f-" now that he was lucid, Mercer caught himself in the middle of an incredibly awkward-sounding phrase and hastily changed it to, "I mean, I have never been healed by the Light in my life until today. I swear."
At that, the dwarf harrumphed suspiciously, then finally turned to JJ, "What about ye? Need healing, too?"

So the Light was real. But then again so were other types of magic in this world. The golden light felt warm and calling even from afar. Like a lantern by the door, waiting for a traveller to come home. His thoughts were interrupted by the dwarf.
- "More like absolution I feel", JJ muttered.
He looked down to his hands. Curiously the blood had disappeared from his gauntlet but still most of his right sleeve was blackish-red from the slowly drying blood.

"Ye wanna talk about it?" the dwarf asked, his features - what little of them that was could be seen - softening.
"Would you mind healing him first all the same? Respectfully? Please?" Alistair tried to butt in. "I have mo-"
The priest silenced Mercer with a stern look, "Ye might wanna clean up, lad."
Mercer promptly shut up and, following the dwarf's gesture, headed to a closet. He could now properly take in his surroundings, and he found himself pleasantly surprised at the chapel's interior. It was quiet here, but not silent - rather, a quiet buzz of several people going about their daily routines with a smile on their faces. The place was strictly functional, and it still had room for some modest decorations that did wonders to make Mercer feel like a guest in a cozy home.
None of the oppression of the organized religious institutions back home, he thought with a lopsided grin that quickly faded when his mind wandered to those he left. Without knowing it, the dwarf had given Mercer a chance to pause, take a breath and think back on the events of the day, and now the ramifications of his predicament became to catch up with him.
Mercer clenched his right fist tightly, knuckles popping. Beneath the glove, his wedding band felt cold.
Having shooed Alistair out of the way, the priest promptly called upon the Light to touch JJ.

The Light came to JJ like unexpected tap on the shoulder by an old friend. First there was a gentle nudge and when you turn to see who it was, you get engulfed in a long and tight hug. The indiscribable beauty of the feeling brought JJ to tears. He buried his face into his hands.
- "I - I just... Just killed them", he said voice breaking. "They lay there... and I just murdered them. Those horrific gurgles they made..."

The dwarf landed next to JJ and placed his shovel-like hand on the young man's shoulder, letting him talk it out as long as needed.

Kahvi felt really tired. Tired and pretty wasted: the post-LARP game meeting she'd spent the whole evening on had gradually turned into a buster. The game's setting was V:tM: not that she was that into vampires, but the GM had offered her a baali role - God, who'd resist! Actually, she knew nothing of it except some obvious things, but Alistair turned out to be a perfect guide through time and space, um, that is, an unfamiliar fandom. But the game had come and gone, so did the buster, and now she came home.
She entered the flat she shared with her husband and sister and was greeted by the said sister's pet - overjoyful, overcheerful and overenergetic pug for some weird reasons bearing the proud name of Batman. Moreover, both her cats were at the door and not in the bedroom where they used to sleep the better part of the day away. And that was pretty odd.
"Hey, guys! Are you hungry? Has Al forgotten to feed you?" Kahvi took off her boots and coat a bit clumsily and headed to the kitchen to check out their bowls. Suprisingly, they were full. "Oh, well. Missed me, I guess?"
Confused, she patted one of them, Zachary, absently and went to the bathroom to wash her hands and face. She staggered a little, but felt mostly relaxed and peaceful. And God so sleepy! She dried her face with a towel and took a look at the mirror: very short hair dyed bright red, light blue-grey eyes, full lips and somewhat plump cheeks. Kahvi considered herself rather pretty, though those cheeks... Ugh. Now she looked pretty tired though: no make up, dark circles under the eyes, an absent look at her face. Time to go to bed.
She crossed the corridor and pushed the door and saw some green mist or gas and then saw nothing more.
The next thing she saw was, well, a room, which didn't even slightly remind of her bedroom. Not even tried to. Kahvi gazed at the huge stone walls ascending to some breathtaking heights... She felt weak and dizzy. Damn, everything here was huge! The place looked like a smith or something, with fire burning in the forges and-
"OH MY F&#%ING GOD!"
-huge spider web. Huge. Enormous. Frigging everywhere. Well, maybe not everywhere, but that was no place and time for absolute accuracy. More like freak out time. God knows which damn creatures could have made this. What she was seeing was definitely not real.
"Must've passed out", she muttered uncertainly, feeling much more sober all of a sudden.
But she also felt cold stones of the floor with her almost bare feet - cute pink socks with snowflakes didn't help. Bone deep awareness of the feeling was way too real for a dream.
Dream or not, she decided it would be a nice and sweet idea to arm herself. Just in case.
Kahvi headed for a weapon rack intending to have a closer look at swords or something, when she noticed a dusty axe leaning at the wall on some shadowy corner between the rack and a wooden beam. Somehow it looked like a thing you definitely should not touch... Oh so tempting. And doesn't work out with the concept of attaining more safety...
And then Kahvi heard a loud snort. Slowly, she turned around... to see a weird horse with some frigging green light at the hooves and wearing some grim heavy armour.
"Oh damn".
It felt like her heart missed a beat. She grabbed the axe... And that's where things started to get weird.

A jolt of energy shot up the woman's arm, forcing her fingers to tighten around the weapon's hilt painfully, her knuckles whitening from the effort. The single rune decorating the axe head, heretofore dormant, began emanating a dim, blood-red glow. A low, guttural voice with otherworldly reverberations to it spoke somewhere from above and behind Kahvi's right shoulder.
"
Urghm. Five more minutes...

"Ouch!"
A sudden unconscious grip on the axe's handle was frightening and, moreover, painful - had it not been so firm, she'd have definitely dropped it. Frightening sudden and firm. But not half as frigging hella terrifying as the voice behind her.
She winced and bounced and turned around and stumbled and fell on the floor, still gripping the axe. Humiliating. And somewhat unexpected and way too actually painful, come on now. Kahvi sat up that very instance and froze, stunned with the view: she was staring at... an orc. Half-transparent like some ghost or a hologram, but definitely an orc. She had seen a lot of pictures of them lately, since Al had decided to show her some WoW intro cinematics... Wait. WoW? Seriously? WARCRAFT? A GAME?
"Time to wake up", she said loudly to herself. She used to like bright realistic dreams on some awesome fandoms, but she wasn't enjoying that one, oh no. Though orcs are hot. And awesome. And just frigging perfect.

"
Okay, okay, no need to boss around,
" the orc grumbled. The creature rolled his shoulders, somehow accomplishing it without wounding himself on the spikes adorning his shoulderguards, and yawned, demonstrating an impressive set of teeth. Fangs, even, by human standards at least.
"
Am Gorshak Rockmaw,
" he introduced himself, looking at Kahvi closely and, for some reason, skeptically, with his beady yellow eyes. "
Hrmph, young woman? Human attitude uncalled for.

The sound of his low guttural voice came from the orc's moving lips, but also reflecting from inside of Kahvi's own head...
She felt light-headed and dizzy. Things were getting blurry and dark and Kahvi understood she was losing conscious. So she raised her free hand and bit as hard as she might, supressing a gasp right afterwards. That helped. And she finally managed to believe that was not a dream somehow.
"Um. Sorry, Gorshak?"
It was a bit late for freaking out on the orc account, so she had nothing to do but deal with the circumstances. First: orcs are cool and hot, but also very dangerous. Second: damn she loved orcs, but orcs do not like people. Third: she happened to reside somewhere in a really weird place, where orcs are real - or their holograms - or at least she was hallucinating in a pretty believable way. But she'd prefer to avoid the thought. Anyway,
"Didn't mean to disturb you. Gotta go, right?"
She stood up slowly and made a step back.

Right. Meet human when human die,
" Gorshak shrugged indifferently, absent-mindedly drumming his fingers against the hilt of his axe - which looked exactly like the one in Kahvi's hand, barring the whole transparency issue.

Oh God, good, now-
"Wait, what?"
She had managed to take two more steps, when she finally got what he'd said. And stood still. And had a closer look at his axe. Which reminded her of the goddamn axe she had been holding all the time. So she made an effort and let go of the annoying thing, and Gorshak dissapeared that instant.
"Hey! Wait! What d'you mean? Hey!"
She kicked the axe viciously, hitting a toe (this pain again!), and for a second saw a glimpse of the hologram... She stepped on the axe's hand, and the orc was in front of her again.
"Oh. So I see you only while touching this thing?"

The orc seemed entirely unfazed by flicking in and out of existence. He even waited patiently for Kahvi to pause her barrage of questions before answering.

"What do you mean?", she repeated dully.
She liked the orc and was really thankful for his patience, though it seemed not much mattered to him anyway. But what he kept saying was confusing, she didn't get any of that.

Thing cursed. Gorshak own thing once, Gorshak cursed too. Should be with ancestors, not talking to human. Now human cursed, too. Gorshak knows not where humans go after humans die, but now knows human woman not go there.
"
There was a resigned certainty to the orc's words; it was equally clear he did not like his current predicament, whatever it was, and that he was sure things were not about to change.

She let out a sharp barking laughter.
"Wow. So typical of me. First thing to do when things get rough? Get yourself cursed".
She felt tears starting to well up in her eyes. She felt sorry for herself: she was tired, still drunk a little, had been planning to cuddle with her husband, hug him, feel nice and safe, talk some silly nonsense. And now she was somewhere alone, barefeet, cold, scared, with only the transparent grim orc telling her about some curses.
"Name's Kahvi, by the way. Nice", quiet sob, " to meet you".
She was crying now, pathetically trying to turn away so that the orc did not see it.

Kahvi started and turned really pale. Stopped crying, startled, and lowered her voice.
"So... There are spiders after all".
She leaned down and took the axe back in hand carefully, wiped the tears and shook her head.
" D'you know how to get the f@#% out of here?"
