This time, the orc narrowed his eyes in thought and considered his answer for several seconds before speaking, evidently at least mildly intrigued by the sudden change in the woman's demeanor.
"
Kahvi want to live? Heh heh heh, maybe Kahvi live after all. Gorshak knows not much about '
here
', but Gorshak remembers many more angry spirits here some time ago. Now considerably fewer angry spirits, after some raiders had fun with '
here
'. No one sees Gorshak, spirits too, so Gorshak asks: is Kahvi sneaky?

"Um. If I try really hard, I guess", she said, doubt obvious in her voice. Then she said more firmly, "I will try".
She gave a quick look at the surroundings once more, searching for some usefull stuff before leaving. Bingo! There was a leather sheath seemingly fitting for the axe. She also noticed a chainmail and a pair of dusty boots nearby. But she didn't hurry to make all these her posessions. She'd grabbed an axe once already...
"I'm ready to head away from here any minute now, but I got one more question before we go: how do you figure out the thing is cursed? Is this sheath ok, for example?", she pointed in the items' direction.

"
Gorshak does not know,
" the orc said, and maybe - just maybe - he sounded a little bit sullenly. "
Gorshak thinks thing is only cursed thing in forge, but Gorshak not sure. Kahvi have to risk.

- "They were... Already defeated", JJ sobbed. "We could have... Just walked away... I could have not done it... But I did... They attempted to struggle... Stop the bleeding... And then they just lay still..."
His voice became barely audible muttering that was quickly drowned completely by the sobs. And then a single, long and tormented scream escaped his lips.

For her entire life Kahvi had been told to get more careful, not to be so risky, to keep in mind possible consequences. To hell with that. She had to risk? She would risk!
Kahvi put on the boots and the chainmail, then put on the sheath. Exhaled in relief when nothing special happened about it. The chainmail was pretty heavy, but not as bad as she'd thought. She checked her posessions once more now: she was wearing a white sweater, high-waisted blue jeans, heavy leather boots, a chainmail, seven small silver earrings and a plain white gold wedding ring with a tiny diamond in it. She didn't know how to deal with money here, but hoped, she wouldn't need to sell this.
"Ok. I'm ready".

Alistair shuddered at the sound. He ought to be helping JJ keep it together, but, truth be told, he was not sure there was anything he could do at this point. He had, after all, told the other Earthman to carry out the murders.
The scream caught him standing at the sink, washing his face. He stared into his reflection's eyes, sighed, and lathered his hands again.
Several people in the chapel turned around, pausing whatever it was they were doing to take a look at JJ; seeing that no one was in an immediate danger or presenting this immediate danger, though, they returned to their business. Apparently, such behavior was hardly uncommon or unnatural in this place at this time.
The dwarf tightened his grip on the man's shoulder, "Och, lad. Better out than in, like me mum used ta say. Ye fought them, then? Ye and the scrawny kid?"

"
Gorshak vaguely remembers arrival here. First, thing carried into big tower, then into human horse pens, then here. Exit not far, if Kahvi sneaky.

JJ lifted his head from his hands and looked at the dwarf. Eyes red and tears still on his cheecks.
- "Yes, they were attempting to mug us I think", JJ answered as he took deep breaths to recompose himself. "Couple of goblins and a hobgoblin. I fought and killed the hobgoblin while Godric incapasitated the two goblins, and I then slit their throats. I've never killed anybody before..."

She kept ignoring Gorshak's barbs. For the time being, she didn't mind them, at least as long as they were more helpful than not. Kahvi took a deep breath (a pretty quiet one though), tightened her grip on the axe and made a step to the unknown. She didn't wan't to climb the old rickety wooden stairs to the right, and so moved forward. No way she was gonna go upstairs. Out! The weird horse in the centre of the stables was still creeping her out, so she tiptoed out of the forge, making sure to give the freaky thing a wide berth.
"What's wrong with this horse?" she muttered to herself, not counting on a reply. After all, she herself was being accompanied by a hologram orc talking inside her head and a cursed axe. And did act like what was happening was real. Pfffft, a hellish horse, big deal.
Dim light was coming through a round window in the enormously high ceiling, hay and spiderweb lay everywhere. She headed to some kind of twin archs and peered through one of them. Hay and spiderweb. And ridiculously high ceilings and all. Seriously, was it a giant's place? What an uncomfortable thought.
Kahvi moved forward and felt something touch her foot...
"HOLY F@#%ING S@#%!"
She jumped away as quickly as possible and brought down her axe as forcefully as she could. A loud clink ushered the action as the blade met the cold stone of the floor, jumping away that instant and beating her leg badly with the back of the axe's head.
"Damn", exhaled the stunned woman.
A scared to death rat squeaked loudly and hid somewhere beneath the hay.

"
Maybe Kahvi not so sneaky after all. But, eager to chop things. Is good. Might be worth something later,
" Gorshak commented snidely.
The hellish steed snorted disdainfully, but otherwise was perfectly content to remain standing on its circular dais, beneath the treacherous light of the moon. Similarly, whatever other phantoms and creatures haunted the place, they did not seem all that eager to rush at the woman for disturbing the graveyard silence of the tower. The clang of the axe echoed into the void and died away beneath the vaulted ceilings.

JJ fell silent, thinking about the question.
Why did he do it?
- "Because I was angry at them", JJ muttered. "We had not done anything to them, just simply got lost. They attacked to steal from us. And..."
- "And because he told me to..."

"So what yer telling me is that ye think killing was wrong, but ye thought being angry and having someone else tell ye ta do it were reasons enough ta push ya? Sounds like yer trying ta escape responsibility fer yer own actions, laddie," the dwarf priest shook his head.
Mercer thought he really had not thought through all possible ramifications of telling JJ to execute the goblins. Seeing his companion in such a wrecked state disturbed him, equally so for ethical and practical reasons. Alistair had to try and remedy the situation, - he needed a functional JJ, dammit, - but that would have to wait until they were in a relatively secure environment. For now, it seemed he had to find something to occupy his time while the confession was carried out.
Too many things had to be accounted for, too many unknown variables had to be included into his plan. Start thinking about long-term goals and some obvious short-term checkpoints elude you. It was impossible to prepare for each and every contingency, true, but that really did not excuse him forgetting about a first aid kit. Sure, he wanted to groom JJ into a paladin, but now it seemed he was so pleased by his own idea that the fact some time would pass before JJ actually became capable of healing via laying on of hands slipped Alistair's mind completely. Snapdoodles.
Any dang way, this small chapel looked like the perfect place to inquire about healing potions and stuff. If the Grand Cathedral of Light in the heart of the kingdom housed ordinary medics, it stood to reason the local branch of the Church was the first place to go. In the end of the day, there was profit to be made out of any and all commotions, even so trivial as a bout with hobo goblins. At the thought of their first enemies, Mercer's hands clenched into fists; really, how dare the filthy things try and take his boots?
"Sir, are you okay?"
Mercer understood that he was standing in the middle of the chapel with murder written all over his face. That attracted attention. Alistair forced himself to exhale, relax a bit and put on an apologetic smile before he turned to face the one to have tapped him on the shoulder - a middle-aged human in simple, yet well-fitting brown working robes.
Did the local humans work out all day, every day? Mercer looked positively emaciated next to any of these burly lumberjack types, now probably more so with his face still mostly drained of color. The local looked tons manlier than him, even while wearing a freaking dress.
"Just reflecting on my own mistakes, sir, beg pardon. Had I thought of carrying some bandages and potions on my person earlier, we would not have to disturb the sanctity of this place," Mercer replied.
"Nonsense. What good is a house of prayer if a man in need cannot rush inside, possibly dripping blood all over the place?" the local grinned amiably, forcing Alistair's smile to become a great deal more genuine. If this approach was shared by the higher-ups in the clerical hierarchy, Mercer might even be forced to change his opinion on the clergy.
"Well, you know what they say, Light helps those who help themselves," Alistair said, "Might as well consider today a stern warning and, well, start helping myself, yes?"
"I think I can get behind that train of thought," the man nodded, then offered his calloused hand for a shake, "I am Brother Bertram."
"Godric Gryphonheart at your service," Mercer shook the priest's hand, concealing a wince at the bone-crushing grip.
"A pleasure. Now, you were saying you want to carry some healing apparatus on you?"
"Well, Brother Bertram, if by chance this place has a surplus of potions and bandages, I would be happy to relieve you of them," Alistair nodded.
"Let's see what can be done," the priest nodded, beckoning Mercer to follow him.

She stood still and silent for several minutes, with a pounding heart, trying to hear the sound of coming danger. Nothing. For now. Good.
Although the situation was so humiliating it hurt, Kahvi admitted it was pretty fun and truly laughable - to freak out 'cause a small rat had run into you (keeping in mind she was ok with the orc's company). Well, maybe not so small, but still smaller than potential spiders or giants. And Gorshak's words somehow flattered her.
"Well, thanks!"
Kahvi chuckled and tried to step on the injured leg. OUCH! No, no good. Not good at all. Her smile faded. The leg hurt badly. Kahvi tried to move and hissed in pain, but made herself go on. God, it was going to be difficult.
She passed through another set of twin archs slowly, with a limp, but determined to leave the damn place. And now watching her step either. Finally she reached the entrance to a foyer.
As she could see, there was a triple arch now on her way with the staircase behind it, but it led up again.
"Wait. Am I in some sort of a basement? Is this a way out?"
But then she saw something else. Or more like someone.
"Hey, is it one of the bloodthirsty crowd you've mentioned?" Kahvi whispered in the lowest of voices.

"Lad, lissen te yerself. Ye alone ken pass judgment on yer own actions. Think back on what ye did and decide, if ye were presented with that choice, would ye do it differently? It dinnae matter for yer piece of mind if ye turn yerself in, when ye cannot even decide what ye think on the matter. Ye might think ye were justified to kill 'em, which is pretty cold-blooded, but it would be yer choice. Or ye might accept that what ye did was wrong. But ye cannot wait for someone else to make that decision for ye. And think carefully, lad, better not to rush."

"
The human ghost - and it definitely looked like a human, a remarkably well-dressed aging, balding male - indeed seemed perfectly content to stand still with his back to the magnificent staircase, fidgeting every so often. Why would a ghost with no corporeal body fidget was anyone's guess, most likely a force of habit.

"Hope so".
Kahvi approached the man slowly and cleared her throat. She just had an awful guess: might she have possibly passed away and now be wandering in a world of ghosts? Sounds too pompously and pathetic, but so far she was the only non-transparent creature here... Well, except rats. Gotta keep that in mind.
"Um. Excuse me. Hello?"
Kahvi tightened her grip on the axe, wandering whether it was going to work on a dead man.
"Could you please show me the way out?"
