I'm a huge fan of the Monster Hunter series. Tri is my favorite one, but the removal of dual swords, gunlances, and bows from Tri is slightly disappointing. My favorite weapon would be either the bow or lance. As to favorite monster? Jhen Mohran and lagiacrus.
Edit- I wrote bows twice. Derp moment.

I haven't played it yet, but a friend of mine devoted a month or so of free time to it.
She described it as basically exactly like a single-player WoW, complete with raid bosses. You could spend a day or two accumulating the materials you needed to be able to take on the next boss. Or at least to try to. So if you like raiding, you might well like MH3.
