Hello all, been enhance forever and recently went resto, so i have looked all over and cant find my answers, well WotLK updated answers. I am wondering now days how much MP5 should i be shooting for? im at like 130 now and the gear im seeing doesnt really have alot of mp5 but lots of int and stamina which is good thing. I am also wondering how much crit rate should i have? So basically im wondering as well when i get new gear should i swap it out fro a piece with mp5 if its got better stats like int and spell power, i was thinking if i stayed above 100 or so ? no clue at this point and many questions. I've been to elitists web page and am finding all the old posts but not much out there for the xpack, (yes i know it just came out not long ago) figure someone whos been resto awhile could give me some insight pls ) and thank you in advance
P.S. As a resto shammy, do i have to use a shield? or is it ok you think to use some of the off hand items, like priests use etc, thank you

Before the spellpower change, the answer to the question was 10% of your +healing should be in mp5 with water shield on (but we usually didn't count mana stream totem for that calculation). So now you're looking at 6-7% of your spellpower as mp5.
The fact that Crit now contributes to mp5 via Improved Water Shield complicates the matter, but I consider that "bonus" mana. I'm still trying to feel out what I need as far as mp5, but I treat it like a valuable stat.
The reason to use a shield is that they will tend to be itemized more correctly for you. Off-hands are for druids and priests, and will tend to have spirit on them. An upgrade is an upgrade, though. The shield is nice for damage mitigation, but if you don't see a shield upgrade coming for awhile, no reason not to go with an off-hand or a staff.
