But she's most definately out of my league.
What makes you think that? You at least share a common interest, so you should be fine.
Ah, that's right; none of you have ever seen any pictures of me.

Ah, that's right; none of you have ever seen any pictures of me.You can't be that bad... :P
But I'll leave it to you to decide whether you want to pursue it or not.
But as to meeting Bronies irl, you should try wearing the shirts... :P I get brohooves all the time. I love it!
I've converted a number of bronies myself. This show is like cocaine.
Edit: On another note, I'm working hard on a new fan-fic. I've managed to stay inspired for longer than any other fic I've done in a long, long time. The first one will be a realistic account of what the events in the Hearth's Warming Eve might have actually been, the sequel will feature the rise of Discord, the creation of the Elements of Harmony, and Celestia and Luna's appearance in Equestria, and the third will be an account of Luna's descent into madness and subsequent banishment.
Edit #2: The theme that runs throughout all these stories is that it's a fairly serious take on the events in question, with the concept that the pastel-painted utopia that the ponies live in now, free from dark influences, is a product of Celestia's rule, and before that, things were quite a bit more sinister. The three tribes from Hearth's Warming Eve aren't just angry at each other, they're threatening open war. Discord isn't just reality-warping prangster, but an omnipotent chaos god with chronic mood swings.

Not bad, no, just not as good as some. And people as pretty as her don't have to give much thought to the underdogs. I know I sure as hell wouldn't if I was in their shoes.

My little brother is still resisting. Is sad, really.

Cool! You'll have to keep us in the loop!

It's been done before but I like those types of fics. :o One of my favourites of that type (although it's not a prequel in itself, it does deal with some parts of pre-Celestia's rule) is the Immortal Game, if anyone's read that. It's long as $%^&, but fabulous. The main criticism is the butcherede Elizabethane Englishe in parts, but owell.

Well, I typed up a big long post, but I accidentally closed the window, so let me summarize it.
I know it's been done before, but if I only wrote things that hadn't been done before, I'd never write at all... :P
I hope to at least shed some new perspective, thanks to the MASSIVE amount of research I've been doing for the project. In that regard, I actually have a sort of proto-theory on how Friendship magic ("Philomancy") might work.
This is where I wrote a really big thesis on exactly how it worked, but really I'm not well enough educated to put it properly, so I'll just state the basic principles: Basically, Philomancy works through the harmonization of some sort of metaphysical "frequency" that exists in ponies (and quite possibly all other living things as well). Different frequencies could harmonize together to form a "chord" of sorts.
The Elements of Harmony, which are most frequently represented as crystals, could have their own resonant frequencies that amplify or substitute for the frequencies of living ponies, explaining how Celestia was able to use them by herself, but Twilight and her friends were even more powerful (since they were able to cure Nightmare Moon, not just banish her). The five Elements provide the actual harmony, but the sixth, Magic, gives it form. Whether Magic serves as a sort of "diaphragm" that produces the perceivable effect, or whether it is the actual medium the wave travels through, I haven't figured out, but it's clear that there needs to be some sort of focusing element (like the Big Crown Thingy, or Clover's horn) in order for the harmony to actually manifest.
I like this theory, because it fits so well with the musical themes used in the show. In the first episode, it mentions that "there two regal sisters who. . .created
harmony
for all the land," and "the Elements of
Harmony
," and that after Celestia took over "
harmony
has been maintained in Equestria for generations since." In
Hearth's Warming Eve
, Spike asserts that before the discovery of Equestria, "ponies did not know
harmony
," but after Clover and her friends defeated the windigoes, "the three leaders agreed to share the beautiful land and live in
harmony
forever afterwards." In
The Return of
Harmony
, Cheerilee states that "this statue represents
discord
, which means 'a lack of
harmony
among ponies.'"
It's clear that harmonics are a very clear motif in the show, which makes this theory particularly appealing, in my opinion.
In my story, Star-Swirl is actually the first pony to begin rigorous study of Philomancy (with the aid of his apprentice, Clover, who discovered it), and is the one who conceptualizes the Elements as a way to boost its effect (as well as make it accessible to non-unicorns). The Elements are actually created after Discord takes over, and Celestia and Luna put them to use. I like the idea that the Elements were created by mortal ponies; it both shows that the power of friendship is generated by normal people, while also paying homage to the Lord of the Rings, where the titular rings (and the silmarils, too) were created by mortals, but played a key parts in the affairs of immortals.
Edit: Well, I guess that ended up being a pretty long post anyway... :P

You're making a half-scientific theory for the magic of friendship in a cartoon pony show. You go, qurl! I like it, actually. It's a lot better idea than my headcanon, easily. :P

Unfortunately, I have a biological deficiency which makes it difficult for me to process the MST3K Mantra properly... :P
Like I said, I'm hoping my own contributions will give the story some fresh perspective, even if the story's already been done before.

Probably on around the same level as Past Sins, i.e., death will be mentioned, but won't occur on-screen. Although, I had considered having Discord turn somepony into a ham at some point to
bump up his menace value
.
Of course, they could always
get better
...
Also, on a different note... I think that the Wonderbolts may actually be a part of Equestria's military, not unlike the Thunderbird or Blue Angels that they are based on. The show initially painted them as a sort of athletic competition group, but then they came
To The Rescue
in "The Secrets of My Excess." However, the thing that's got me thinking of it now was
this picture
. Soarin's suit there, looks very similar to the
Army Service Uniform
, in my opinion. The pins on the collar echo the
Branch Insignias
worn on the ASU collar, and the stripes on his sleeve seem reminicient of the
Service Stripes
worn on the ASU sleeve.
Of course, he's wearing a dress shirt, rather than a jacket, and neither the Branch Insignias nor the Service Stripes are worn on the Class Bs, but it ends up looking more like a military uniform than a simple dress suit nonetheless.

They are a part of the army. I'm sure their rank is specified somewhere on MLP wikia or something.

Hmm...
Well, it seems other people noted the military uniform in that picture before I did, but I just noticed it today... :P
I do think it's pretty neat, as someone who sees ASUs on a regular basis.

Wowhead, thanks.
Back in October 2011 while looking through the Mage forums, someone posted a link to Youtube to anti-troll someone with a video. That video was Fluttershy singing
I Love Everything
. What this was, I didn't know. Curiosity and a few clicks later brought me to a show called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I read "My Little Pony" and thought the same negative thoughts most people hold. All of the comments I read expressed a love for this show. I decided to watch one episode, to see what was so enjoyable about this apparently amazing new show.
Lesson Zero
was that episode, and throughout the whole thing I was constantly looking over my shoulder to make sure no one would see me watching a show based on ponies. But at the same time, something clicked.
Something about the show resonated with the people and with me. Cartoons today don't have the same feeling they did in the 90's (to me). I see some of the cartoons today and just feel no connection to them, no desire to watch them.
MLP brought back that feeling I had as a kid, pushing through the school week for the excitement and joy of being able to see a new episode on the greatest block in Cartoon Network, Toonami. Only this time, it's the Hub, and it's ponies.
So thanks Wowhead. For introducing me to one of the greatest communities in the world.
