Have you double checked that you upgraded your actual account? You might have just downloaded the game, but you still might have to input the code to upgrade your account. To check what type of account you have, Log onto your Battle Net account, click on your Warcraft account, and scroll down to product level. If your account is fully upgraded, it should say World of Warcraft Standard Edition, or Collectors if you should have that.

This happened with a friend of mine, once he got to level 20 the Trial restrictions vanished and he could do anything as normal.
