A raid is either 10/25/40 people trying to overcome a tough challenge of bosses. Note the 40 person version is only for old lvl60 raids. There is also raids at lvl70/80/85 (which are usually run less often due to old content although your server may be different).
There are a few raids at lvl90 but do require some good armour and weapons to get in.
My suggestion would be look at the raids on this site under database->zones->raids to take a bit of a look but don't let it overwhelm you too much.
Other than that, level as usual via questing and dungeons whilst learning your chosen class well. See you soon in raids

Raiding is something you do once you reach the maximum level (Level 90 currently) and while you will find lower level raids from previous expansions (Level 60, 70, 80 and 85) you shouldn't bother with them as they don't provide any useful rewards while leveling, nor will you have much luck at finding anyone else interesting in doing them at that level.
Dungeons on the other hand are available to you throughout your entire leveling experience, and will provide both powerful rewards as well as a nice change of pace from questing. They require 5 players (including yourself) to complete, and it the lower levels are relatively easy. Most lower level dungeons don't have a whole lot of difficult tactics that you could really wipe your group on, but if you want to learn a little more you could check out the respective dungeon pages here on Wowhead to see how the bosses look, what abilities they have and some general tips on how to defeat them. The best way is to queue up for a dungeon through the LFD tool, and than just quest will you wait for it to pop up.
