im new to mage and was wanting to know what spec to roll with.
Frost.
can help me with this also im starting with 0 gold

seeing as you don't have any gold to speak of, i would steer clear of going with 2 crafting professions for now.
you can always drop a profession and pick up a second crafting profession at a later date when you're more set in the game gold wise.
if you don't have a lot of time to farm, skinning is a very easy profession to level up, and can make you quite a bit of gold with little effort.
also, i'd go with whatever spec peaks your interest the most. read through some of the skills in the 3 different trees and decide which one seems the coolest to you. . .just have fun with the toon, you can always worry about your dps, spec, and stats once you've hit 85 and want to start getting into heroics and raids.
till then, why not just do whatever's the funnest for you?

Keep in mind that gathering professions give a fair amount of XP now. One hour of mining for Obsidium ore, for example, usually gives me something like 1/8'th of a level and ore worth ~2k-3k gold.
As for the spec. I would vote for Arcane, but that's just me. People always seem to think Frost is the ultimate leveling spec, but I'm not so convinced anymore. - At least, at higher levels, Arcane is almost unbeatable. Mana regen so high you never dip below 90% and the dps so high you can practically two-shot anything, even in quest greens.
I used to be a Frost mage. No more :)

Frost does help with surviving the chain spawn mobs.... >.>
