As a new warrior myself, I can give you a bit of advice.

If you haven't already, pick some professions and hone up on the secondary ones.

I chose Mining and Blacksmithing. I also am levelling up on Fishing, Cooking, and First Aid.

These all give you lots of things to do if you don't feel like beating up some MOBs and Questing at any time. I find that a combination of Questing while looking for opportunities to Mine, and Fish etc. spice things up.

Also, I haven't found it boring being in the same places for a long time. There are SOO many Quests to do, things to explore etc. that I won't be bored for a long time. I've fully explored and done nearly everything in Durator, have probably done 60% of The Barrens, and am now working in Stonetalon Mountains and dipping my toes in Ashenvale.

I find the warcraft.com site to be excellent, and this one to find out things I haven't even thought of. warcraft.com profession links are excellent with pointers to great guides for all professions.

Anyway, I'm rambling on a bit.

BTW: I have about 8 gold at the moment, if that's anything to go by.

It looks like it's 35g for one of these.

Also, on your original question about buying stuff at the AH. I would say just go for it. If you get a better <whatever> as a drop, just sell what you got from the AH back to the AH or to a vendor. I've bought a couple of things at the AH. I mostly make my own (Blacksmithing) or get drops though.
