I read the patch notes so what I need here is clarification on what removing the racial restrictions actually does. I ground exalted with my troll and was able to buy a wolf so how is this different? Doesn't getting exalted remove the restriction anyway?

On the Alliance side, prior to 3.0.8, only gnomes and dwarves could ride mechanostriders. After the patch my human paladin took a walking tour of Dalaran on an
unpainted mechanostrider
. I only got called a noob once!

As they said all alliance races can now ride mechanostriders and Tauren can now ride all horde mounts. They still require exalted to buy(Unless you get the PvP mount). For example, my tauren druid can now ride(and does ride) a Swift Warstrider(PvP Blood Elf mount) which before I could not get.

on my Human mage the other day. I've been wanting a Mechanostrider ever since I discovered they existed, but couldn't stomach the thought of re rolling gnome!
With the racial restrictions lifted, the Black Battlestrider now appears on the list of Black War mounts you can buy. (Alliance side, I'd assume it's the same with Tauren for all the Horde war mounts.)
So, if you really don't wanna run Gnomer a billion timed to get exalted with GE, get a Battlestrider! You'll love everything except the ungodly amounts of noise it makes. I don't know how you gnomes do it...

Wow, I reached exalted without stepping foot in Gnomer after I completed the dungeon quests around level 30 or whatever it was. At level 68 I just went and did all the newbie quests in dun morogh. By the time I got to Wetlands I was exalted.
(And make sure you do the wool, silk, mageweave, and runecloth initial cloth turn in quests.)
Why oh why would anyone torture themselves with another Gnomer run?

The DK can get a White Hawkstrider from Kael'thas in Heroic Magister's Terrace. The only way the Warrior is getting a Kodo is during Brewfest, when a Kodo can drop from the special Brewfest boss in Blackrock Depths.
